While people in the mainstream media were delighted that Democrat “rising star” Beto O’Rourke held a “counter-rally” to President Trump’s visit to the border in El Paso, Texas, their coverage of Monday’s event was far from complete.
Among the aspects of the rally that eluded the reporters’ attention were the people in the crowd who took great pleasure in slamming a large piñata that resembled Donald Trump and the Mexican flags carried by a number of participants.
Even though many reporters attended the “Beto” rally, none of them noticed that some people in the crowd brought the piñata and allowed others to hammer it with a big, black piece of wood until the paper-mache object was totally destroyed.
However, the Right Scoop website posted a video recorded by Phil Prazan, who works for KXAN in Austin, that shows one person after another hitting the object until it was torn apart.
The site also noted:
Now I want you to just think back to the first term of Obama when the Tea Party movement was getting underway.
The media and democrats were already demonizing the Tea Party meetings by calling them racist.
“Can you imagine if some people at a Tea Party meeting set up a piñata of Obama and started to beat the crap out of it like you see in this video?” Right Scoop then asked. “The media and dems would have been apoplectic!”
“Yet this happens to Trump, and we hear NOTHING. Not a word,” the site added.
“Prazan couldn’t have been the only media person there while Beto was speaking,” Right Scoop continued. “But hey, the media is fair and honest. No double standard here.”
The site also linked to the Twitter feed of columnist Benny Johnson, who approached the situation from a different angle.
“Beto used a wall at [an] anti-wall rally,” Johnson stated while referring to a fence behind the stage.
In order to protect himself & control who walked backstage at his anti-wall rally, Beto used A WALL.
While being protected by A WALL, Beto said: “Walls do not save lives. Walls end lives.”
“This is beyond parody,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kyle Morris, a reporter for Breitbart News, found other aspects of the rally worth pointing out:
Supporters of failed Senate candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke brought Mexican flags to his El Paso, Texas, rally … as the potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate spoke in both Spanish and English....
O’Rourke spoke to his crowd of supporters in both English and Spanish throughout the speech. “Sí se puede!” O’Rourke shouted to his supporters during the event.
Protestors in attendance for the Trump opposition speech also held signs that read: “Immigrants Make America Great” and “BETO 2020.”
“While O’Rourke remains undecided on whether he will run for president, 2020 merchandise was for sale at the event,” Morris stated. “The unofficial merchandise included buttons and T-shirts.”
As NewsBusters previously reported, NBC News was “giddy” during Monday morning’s edition of the Today show over O’Rourke’s Trump protest. Welker concluded that there would be “two very different events, two different messages and potentially a preview of what we could see in 2020.”
The NBC reporter’s comment was similar to one in a video produced by the Western Journal and posted on Breitbart TV:
In the unlikely event these two end up facing each other in the 2020 election, the choice Americans face is clear.
One candidate is unashamed to fly a 60-foot Old Glory to celebrate our great nation. The other candidate’s message is open borders and foreign flags.
Even though the election is more than 18 months away, that puts the contest in a helpful perspective.
