Even though the March for Our Lives happened over the weekend, the liberals at MSNBC continued to provide students with opportunities to promote gun-control policies on Monday, when All In host Chris Hayes asked Maryland teenager Matt Post why people should listen to him and other student activists.
“Because we are the moral conscience of this country,” the guest readily asserted before claiming: “We need to start caring about human lives, and we need to create public policy that reflects that.”
Hayes began the discussion with Post and fellow gun-control advocate David Hogg by stating: “I want to play a little bit of what you -- what both of you had to say at the march this weekend. Take a listen.”
During the following clip, the Maryland teenager stated:
We know that to only focus on school safety instead of American safety is to dismiss the thousands of tragedies in between the massacres.
At that point, an unidentified woman asked Hogg: “Why do you think that yours was so different” from other mass school shootings?
“I think the reason it was different is because we stood up and spoke out, but also because of our white privilege, our affluence,” he replied.
“That thing you said there really struck me,” Hayes then noted. “You know, in the aftermath of Parkland, the conversation got very specific very quickly -- how do we stop school shootings and massacres like the one we saw” on February 14 at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School?
The liberal host then began to answer his own question by stating that metal detectors need to be installed in schools across the country. “We’ve got to -- and I’ve watched you and David and others make sure to push that conversation out more broadly. What is your thinking there?”
“Well, school shootings make up the minority of the shootings,” Post responded. “We need to be focused on American safety, not school safety.”
“And that’s why the bills that are going through Congress that don’t even mention guns, that’s why things like arming teachers or metal detectors is trying to put gum at the bottom of a bucket with an enormous hole,” he continued.
“I mean, it’s not going to solve the real root of the problem,” Post added, “which is a sickness of gun culture in this country.”
Hayes then lobbed a softball question Hogg’s way: “What is your takeaway” from the demonstrations on Saturday? “What was that experience like to be there among hundreds of thousands of people?”
The Florida teenager replied:
It was so empowering to witness the birth of a revolution. This was not the end of anything. That is just the start. We have walkouts coming up and so many other things.
It was truly amazing to hear everybody’s story and understand how everybody is affected by this, regardless of where you come from.
“And it made it even more important for me to continue this message of peace and equality for all Americans regardless of where you come from or anything like that,” he added.
Hayes then returned to Post and stated: “There’s been a lot of people saying, you know, we don’t have to listen to these kids. And, oh, they’re -- you know, I understand they are upset.”
“I keep seeing this,” the liberal host continued before claiming that the First Amendment right to free speech is “very funny.”
“But why should we listen to them?” he asked. “Why should people listen to you?”
“Because we are the moral conscience of this country,” Post replied. “I think our adults and politicians have become uncompassionate and a little soulless. We need to start caring about human lives and we need to create public policy that reflects that.”
The Maryland teenager amazingly continued: “I think we are one of the most compassionate generations that has ever walked this country with a strong set of moral values and a strong understanding of what is right and wrong, and we are going to shock this country with morality.”
Responding to the interview, The Right Scoop's Soopermexican asked:
What the hell is this kid even talking about? What obnoxious ignorant little jerks they are, acting as if they know everything about this country and that they’re so much better than everyone else.
Yes, of course we have sympathy for anyone who went through a shooting, it’s a horrible experience to go through. But that doesn’t suddenly make them more knowledgeable about the issue than anyone else.
“This is purely an attempt to push emotion over intellect,” he noted, “and it’s no wonder that the kiddies are becoming even more insane and obnoxious with liberals and the media cheering them on.”
