Here a Crack. There a Crack. Everywhere a Crack Crack!
Yes, if Politico is seeing cracks (of the GOP variety) then you know it must be election season. And right on cue with a little over a month left until the midterm elections Politico is seeing huge cracks in the Republican party. In fact they are so insistent on GOP cracks that you almost get the sense they want Republican-inclined voters to get demoralized and neglect to vote this year.
For an example of how much Politico is desperately hyping the GOP Crack theme you need only to look at their Friday front page. The big crack headline at the top of that page (as of this writing) has a couple of Florida crackers, Gary Fineout and Kimberly Leonard, boldly declaring that things are so bad for the cracking GOP in Florida that they seem to need a life boat to rescue them from the inevitable: "‘We are hemorrhaging’: Cracks emerge in GOP’s Florida firewall."
Just a couple of stories down, Politico's Myah Ward and Erin Doherty gaze upon yet more emerging crack in "Poll: A crack is emerging in Trump’s coalition over deportations."
Let us now watch the "Cracks emerge in GOP's Florida Firewall," or at least what the pair of Florida crackers desperately want us to believe is emerging:
Now, some polling has shown statewide races inside the margin of error, including for governor and U.S. Senate. Democratic congressional seats seen as flippable after mid-decade redistricting are a question mark while some Republicans have distanced themselves from an increasingly unpopular president.
Democratic wins in Florida would send tremors through the political ecosystem. It could not only help increase Democrats’ margins if they win back the House, but would also have a dramatic impact on the 2028 presidential race if Democrats win the governor’s race, given Florida has 30 electoral college votes up for grabs. Both Gov. Ron DeSantis and Trump won landslide victories in 2022 and 2024.
So "some polling has shown statewide races inside the margin of error?" Why, this could be the biggest crack in the Florida GOP since the 2018 gubernatorial election in that state when a Hopium infused Politico declared that "most polls show Gillum with a lead that’s within the margin of error or just outside it."
And now we analyze the other crack that Politico discovered emerging in "Trump’s coalition over deportations."
Non-MAGA Trump voters are more than twice as likely as self-identified MAGA Trump voters to say his mass deportation campaign is too aggressive, 31% to 14%. While roughly similar shares of both groups believe Trump’s campaign is about right, the MAGA base wants him to go even further: 36% of MAGA Trump voters say his campaign is not aggressive enough, compared with 23% of non-MAGA Trump voters.
Of course, we all know just how scientific political (push) polls are. Just ask Presidents Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. The latter most likely would crack up with laughter over Politico's intoxication with the Friday overdose of Crack Hopium.
