Remember the extreme discomfort Senator Chuck Schumer displayed recently when pressed by Joe Scarborough on MSNBC's Morning Joe as to whether he agreed with Harry Reid's description of the Koch brothers as "un-American?" After much evasion, Schumer finally agreed with Reid that the Koch brothers were un-American due to the political ads they are running.
It now turns out that Schumer's uneasiness with calling the Koch brothers "un-American" didn't have as much to do with casting aspersions upon their character as it had to do with something in his past that he probably knew would expose him as a hypocrite. And that something was a 2009 letter from Schumer thanking the Koch brothers political organization, KOCHPAC, for a contribution to his campaign. The letter can be seen after the jump.
Here is Schumer profusely thanking the "un-American" Koch brothers for their campaign donation:
Thank you so much for the generous KOCHPAC contribution to my 2010 campaign for re-election to the United States Senate.
Schumer concludes the letter to KOCHPAC with this sentiment of thanks:
Again, I can't thank you enough. All of my best to you and yours, and I look forward to working with you throughout this election.
It will be interesting to see if Joe Scarborough will have a reaction to this letter. Will he ask Schumer about it? And will others in the MSM bring this up the next time Schumer appears on one of the news shows? It has been said that the most dangerous place to be is between Chuck Schumer and a television camera but perhaps it will be safe for awhile as Schumer attempts to publicly avoid addressing his glaring hypocrisy.
