It’s been almost sick-making watching Obama-loving media members gush and fawn over his address to the nation Friday concerning race and the George Zimmerman verdict.
One nauseating example was Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift who said on PBS’s McLaughlin Group, “The President’s remarks on Friday are going to be read by future generations. They’re beautiful, they’re eloquent” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
ELEANOR CLIFT, NEWSWEEK/DAILY BEAST: I want to say the President’s remarks on Friday are going to be read by future generations. They’re beautiful, they’re eloquent, they speak to the pain of a lot of people in this country. [Pointing at fellow panelist Mort Zuckerman] You’re smirking while I say that.
MORT ZUCKERMAN, US NEWS & WORLD REPORT: I’m not smirking.
CLIFT: Sure looked that way right over there.
CLARENCE PAGE, CHICAGO TRIBUNE: No smirking, Mort.
ZUCKERMAN: Get a pair of glasses.
JOHN MCLAUGHLIN, HOST: Smirking is prohibited.
ZUCKERMAN: I wasn’t smirking.
CLIFT: He addresses the pain that a lot of people feel. He does not question the jury verdict. He talks about how we can go forward. He doesn’t, he says we’ve made a lot of progress. This is not a post-racial America. But if he didn’t speak out, what kind of president would he be? This has been the elephant in the room for the last week. He has an obligation to address this.
MCLAUGHLIN: President…
CLIFT: And I think a lot of people will identify with the remarks that he made.
Let’s be clear: Barack Obama could recite the alphabet and folks such as Clift would have orgasms.
Makes you wonder how any of them sleeps at night.
