Harrison Ford made a brutal critique of the news industry Thursday.
Appearing on PBS's Tavis Smiley Show, the actor said the "divisiveness and fractiousness in our society" is caused by "what passes for journalism" today "fostering and supporting our prejudices" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
"There’s so much divisiveness and fractiousness in our society, and there’s a big industry that is constructed around keeping us apart and servicing our opinions and fostering and supporting our prejudices," Ford said during his interview with Smiley.
“I think it could be argued that one of those industries that keeps us apart is in fact the industry called Hollywood," Smiley followed up.
This was an expansion of what Ford told NBC's David Gregory Sunday.
“I’ll agree with that,” Smiley responded. “Amen, amen, amen.”
It is indeed ironic to see Smiley agreeing as he is part of what sadly "passes for journalism" today.
