Chris Matthews on Thursday said Fox News ought to hire disgraced Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) to play the "typical liberal with all the lifestyle qualities of a typical liberal" to talk about "the latest scandal every night."
Politico's Ben Smith responded to the "Hardball" host, "I asked them about it today. They didn’t buy it. They referred me to CNN" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Well maybe Roger Ailes over at Fox will have him play the liberal. That would be (laughs), wouldn’t that be?
BEN SMITH, POLITICO: I asked them about it today. They didn’t buy it.
MATTHEWS: What did he say?
SMITH: They didn’t buy it. They referred me to CNN.
MATTHEWS: It would be perfect to say, “Here’s your typical liberal with all the lifestyle qualities of a typical liberal. Let’s talk to him about the latest scandal every night.”
Smith is right. Ailes isn't likely to hire such a degenerate. If Weiner winds up on television, it will be CNN or MSNBC.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're already talking about it.
