As a NewsBusters study published following the conclusion of The View’s 28th season showed, they didn’t have any real conservatives on to defend congressional Republicans or the White House. Near the end of Tuesday’s episode (part of season 29), they finally addressed the fact that they don’t have real conservatives on the show by suggesting “they’re afraid of us.” They even had the nerve to whine about other people criticizing them, when the entire premise of the show was for them to criticize others.
Their complaints about Republicans not coming on their show came following a heated interview with Cheryl Hines, the wife of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (D). Despite being fairly non-political, by her own account, Hines was assailed on multiple fronts about her husband as the cast openly admitted that it was unfair of them to do so.
Hines vigorously defended her husband and by extension the Trump administration’s Make America Healthy Again initiative.
“But that's the great thing about The View, you know, we want people to come and give their views. And everyone who comes here, we try to be respectful, and we ask tough questions. We ask tough questions because we're otherwise speculating,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg proclaimed following the conclusion of the interview.
“Speculating” was doing a ton of heavy lifting coming from Goldberg. She once claimed in 2024, without evidence, that Trump was going to outlaw interracial marriages and redistribute the white spouse. That’s not speculation, that’s just lying.
Back on Tuesday, co-host Joy Behar chimed in to lash out at Republicans, particularly Republican men for supposedly being “afraid” of them:
I was going to say that I think we should have more Republicans on the show, but they don’t want to come on. They're scared of us. It’s like Marjorie Taylor Greene says that she finds the Republican men afraid of powerful women. Well, that may be true of all political persuasions, but if they would come on this show and they can explain to us what they're trying to do to this country.
Faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in to note that Senator Ted Cruz had come on the show once before, which drew a scoff of sorts from Behar:
FARAH GRIFFIN: And we have had some good ones. But like, I always think it's helpful when we have like Ted Cruz, I think we should have. We've invited Mike Johnson. Thomas Massie has been super interesting.
BEHAR: Has anyone ever come on? No!
FARAH GRIFFIN: Cruz has, though I'd like to have him back on.
HOSTIN: Yeah. Ted Cruz has come on.
You may have noticed that Farah Griffin said she’d like to see him on the show again. But a NewsBusters exclusive on December 5, 2023, exposed that when Cruz asked The View for another appearance (three times), they denied him.
Earlier in the Tuesday show, Goldberg actually whined about people baring to criticize them despite the entire premise of The View was to criticize others (mostly Republicans). “What business is it of yours?” she huffed, provoked by criticisms of Jennifer Aniston.
Goldberg bizarrely argued that just because she says something publically doesn’t mean you have a right to talk about it. “Again, but just because I say something to you doesn't mean that you need to comment on it,” she bloviated. “I don't know you. You don't he know me. You don't know what's in my heart. Stop.”
Things got really rich when she rhetorically asked: “[A]re you trying to make people feel bad when you put these things out there?”
Seemingly bashing the First Amendment and the proliferation of social media, Behar kvetched about how anyone can share an opinion these days: “But Whoopi, we have entered into a world where everybody is a critic, everybody has an opinion, and they can tell it to you.”
“Yes, and that's why I say shut your mouth! Shut your mouth!” Goldberg bitterly demanded.
Ultimately, it was proof that The View could dish it but not take it. And it made sense that individual Republicans would make the determination not to go on the show. It would ultimately be a waste of time since the show had openly admitted to being a vector for Democratic election efforts, and welcomed rhetoric that had put the lives of Republicans in danger.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Can we started at the real heart of this, what business is it of yours?
SUNNY HOSTIN: Yes. Correct.
JOY BEHAR: Well, she said it. She put it there, so, you know.
GOLDBERG: Again, but just because I say something to you doesn't mean that you need to comment on it. You know? If you want to -- comment to your friends. You know, you are not -- you are an egg to me. I don't know you. You don't he know me. You don't know what's in my heart. Stop -- you know, just talk about what's going on with you and your friends, but don't -- you know, are you trying to make people feel bad when you put these things out there?
BEHAR: But Whoopi, we have entered into a world where everybody is a critic, everybody has an opinion, and they can tell it to you.
GOLDBERG: Yes, and that's why I say shut your mouth! Shut your mouth! You now? I mean, there are some things that we can critique. We can critique world items, but we have no business critiquing your personal business.
HOSTIN: Choices.
[Crosstalk]
BEHAR: Just like the government has no business being involved with my body.
GOLDBERG: Yes, being in your body. Because if you don't have my body you don't know what I need! If you don't have my kids you don't know what I need! If you don't have my life you don't know what I need!

GOLDBERG: So we can ask. Go ahead, Joy.

FARAH GRIFFIN: Cruz has, though I'd like to have him back on.
HOSTIN: Yeah. Ted Cruz has come on. And I think it would be wonderful –
BEHAR: [Inaudible] Trump to come on.
SARA HAINES: Your boyfriend Chris Christie could come on.
BEHAR: My boyfriend Chris Christie is invited here anytime.
HOSTIN: And I do think it's important that Robert Kennedy Jr. Comes on this show. I think that would be important.
GOLDBERG: We’re going to be right back in a second.
