The View returned from their summer vacation following the Labor Day weekend on Tuesday for their 27th season, and the cackling coven of ABC News co-hosts were itching to take swipes at former President Trump since they missed most of his indictments. Fill-in moderator Joy Behar (Whoopi Goldberg was out with COVID again, despite being vaccinated and boosted) was so scared of the possibility of Trump winning in 2024 that she blamed him for the rainy mess at Burning Man.
Meanwhile, staunchly racist Sunny Hostin and faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin were putting their eggs in the 14th Amendment basket to supposedly bar Trump from running without a conviction of any kind.
Behar opened their Hot Topics segment by quipping how they “missed a lot this summer” and suggested – without evidence – that people were clamoring to get their hot takes. “People were writing on Facebook, ‘When are you coming back? I'm sure you're missing everything. We want to hear what you have to say.’ So, let's say what we have to say today,” she proclaimed.
“So, is there anything that we can do to stop this guy from running? Because obviously, HE’s A TRAITOR!” she shouted. She was even perplexed as to why he was even running again: “So, why would he be running for president if he's a traitor?!”
The arguments against Trump became more unhinged as the show progressed. During their conversation about the muddy disaster that was Burning Man over the weekend, Behar declared it “one of the many tragedies this summer due to climate change” and insisted that Trump and Republicans writ large were directly to blame for the weather:
BEHAR: But when I hear Republicans say, “Oh, it's not man-made. It’s not about fossil fuels.” You know, when Trump was president, all of that went up – the fossil fuel usage went up.
HOSTIN: Yes. And the regulations went down.
“He is a menace to the planet. Please don't vote for him. I'm begging you. Get him out of here. He's so dangerous,” Behar literally begged the audience.
At one point in their conversation, Hostin whined and wondered, “Why is he even allowed to run?” According to her, the new scheme they should focus on to keep Trump out of office was the dubious legal theory of using the 14th Amendment, since he supposedly didn’t need to be convicted of a crime for it to work:
And I've said it over and over again. Now, there are these legal -- Alyssa and I were talking about it earlier. There are conservative legal minds and experts that are saying that under the 14th Amendment he is not even allowed to run, even though he hasn't been convicted yet because the 14th Amendment says if you've participated in public office after taking an oath to this country in an insurrection, you're ineligible to run.
“So, I really think this legal theory is something that we really need to concentrate on, instead of concentrating so much on the indictments, I mean, I'm very excited about them myself,” she added in an attempt to defend her hard pivot away from the indictment. “But I definitely think 14th Amendment all the way and just prevent him from running.”
They were back and limping along on all cylinders.

11:05:08 a.m. EasternJOY BEHAR: We missed a lot this summer. People were writing on Facebook, “when are you coming back? I'm sure you're missing everything. We want to hear what you have to say.” So, let's say what we have to say today.
Trump had his fourth indictment.
ANA NAVARRO: Who's counting?
BEHAR: He was indicted by a grand jury along with 18 of his allies including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows.
SUNNY HOSTIN: Yeah.
[Applause]
BEHAR: Trying to overthrow the election in Georgia. So, he's facing 91 felony charges.
HOSTIN: Yes, he is.
BEHAR: Four indictments in various districts and an array of civil cases, he was twice-impeached as you always remind us.
HOSTIN: Disgraced.
BEHAR: So, is there anything that we can do to stop this guy from running? Because obviously, HE’s A TRAITOR! So, why would he be running for president if he's a traitor?!

HOSTIN: So, he's going to get convicted. The larger question, why is he even allowed to run?
[Applause]
And I've said it over and over again. Now, there are these legal -- Alyssa and I were talking about it earlier. There are conservative legal minds and experts that are saying that under the 14th Amendment he is not even allowed to run, even though he hasn't been convicted yet because the 14th Amendment says if you've participated in public office after taking an oath to this country in an insurrection, you're ineligible to run.
BEHAR: Okay.
HOSTIN: And so, you have two lawsuits now pending – I think one in New Hampshire and – is it –
ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Florida.
HOSTIN: Florida. And then you also have the fact this has been tested before. Remember Madison Cawthorn.
SARA HAINES: Yeah.
HOSTIN: The one who was getting in trouble for all that stuff. Well, a federal appeals court found that he was ineligible to run because he participated in an insurrection and there was no conviction there.
So, I really think this legal theory is something that we really need to concentrate on, instead of concentrating so much on the indictments, I mean, I'm very excited about them myself. But I definitely think 14th Amendment all the way and just prevent him from running.

BEHAR: This is one of the many tragedies this summer due to Climate Change. This is another one of those. They better deal with this.
HAINES: Yes, the Maui fires
BEHAR: This is the number one existential problem.
HOSTIN: It rained three months-worth over 24 hours.
BEHAR: But when I hear Republicans say, “oh, it's not man-made. It’s not about fossil fuels.” You know, when Trump was president, all of that went up – the fossil fuel usage went up.
HOSTIN: Yes. And the regulations went down.
BEHAR: He is a menace to the planet. Please don't vote for him. I'm begging you. Get him out of here. He's so dangerous.
