One would think that the second arraignment of former President Trump (for withholding classified documents) would have the liberal ladies of ABC’s The View in good spirits on Wednesday. And yet, they were having a major case of the sads because Trump didn’t show fear during the process. They also fretted that a “nutty MAGA” voter would make it onto the jury and he wouldn’t go to prison.
The mood on the set was somber as they started the show with clips of Trump supporters gathering outside the federal courthouse in Miami, Florida and the former President meeting with some of them. “What do you think of this? What was in your brain?” moderator Whoopi Goldberg wondered in disbelief.
It was staunchly racist co-host Sunny Hostin who was the first to voice her concern that Trump had “made a mockery of the process” by not showing fear of the legal system.
“I think what most people don't realize is when you're arraigned and arrested, that it's the beginning of the criminal process. And it's usually very daunting for people. It's usually that moment they realize, ‘Wow, this is happening.’ And we didn't see that,” she lamented.
She was also upset that “There was no mugshot,” “no bail money” required to keep him in jail, and “they didn't make him surrender his passport.” She even suggested that the expedited booking process (likely for security concerns) was a travesty of justice:
I was very disappointed that it seemed that he had completed the entire booking process, even before entering the courtroom. He got special treatment. And that is not how the law is supposed to work. In my opinion.
Hostin wasn’t the only cast member attempting to undermine the legitimacy of the justice system. Co-host Joy Behar accused the judge overseeing the case of being a “Trump flunky” and questioned her impartiality since she was appointed by him.
She falsely suggested Judge Cannon said “Trump deserves special treatment” during the trial. “They had to appeal that which only kicks the can down the road which makes the whole case go into the time when he’ll be running. That’s one thing. I don't like that about her,” she sneered.
Behar presented no evidence to back up that claim, but she could be talking about when Cannon ruled that a special master would be needed to review the documents. But that occurred months ago and had already played out. It wasn’t something that was pending nor did it pertain directly to the trial as she suggested.
Even the potential jury received Behar’s ire. “Not to mention the fact that the case is going to be in Florida. All you need is one nutty MAGA on the jury, that’s all, and you have a hung jury,” she ranted. “Again, appeals, down the road, and still he could become president.”
To close out the segment, Goldberg demanded that everyone stop talking about former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s e-mails and President Biden’s documents. “See, I don’t want to hear you say, ‘Well, Hillary, and why didn’t she get rid of-‘ I don’t want to hear that anymore. I don't want to hear people talk about ‘Biden did it,’” she shrieked in a mocking and angry voice.
The View’s preemptive attempts to discredit the Trump trial was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from L’Oreal and Angi. Their contact information is linked.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: What do you think of this? What was in your brain?
[Crosstalk]
SUNNY HOSTIN: It seemed like he made a mockery of the process and he was allowed to make a mockery of the process. I think what most people don't realize is when you're arraigned and arrested, that it's the beginning of the criminal process. And it's usually very daunting for people. It's usually that moment they realize, “wow, this is happening.” And we didn't see that.
I think he – There was no mugshot. That's off process.
Whoopi: No bail money.
HOSTIN: There’s no bail money. They didn't make him surrender his passport.
And I think what's very important in this country is that the rule of law applies to everyone and the process of that rule of law applies to everyone. It must. Because prosecutors don't only enforce the law, you also send a message to the community that this is what happens when you behave a certain way.
And I was very disappointed that it seemed that he had completed the entire booking process, even before entering the courtroom. He got special treatment. And that is not how the law is supposed to work. In my opinion.

JOY BEHAR: My problem with this whole indictment is this is the most serious charge against him. I think. More than any of the other charges.
HOSTIN: I think that’s right.
BEHAR: And yet, we have a judge in Florida, her name is Aileen Cannon, who’s going to be the judge in the case, who claimed that Trump deserves special treatment because he's a former president. They had to appeal that which only kicks the can down the road which makes the whole case go into the time when he’ll be running. That’s one thing. I don't like that about her.
And you can’t get rid of her unless she recues herself. So, she’s all in! She’s a Trump flunky who’s sitting in judgment of this. Not to mention the fact that the case is going to be in Florida. All you need is one nutty MAGA on the jury, that’s all, and you have a hung jury. Again, appeals, down the road, and still he could become president.
I think that that’s highly possible and people should be very worried of that.
HOSTIN: I believe in out jury system more than that. I believe in out jury system more than that.
BEHAR: Well, good for you.
[Laughter]
BEHAR: Because I don’t.
HOSTIN: It’s flawed but I think we have the best legal system in the world. And I think that when you have 12 citizens sitting there and they are instructed to follow the law and follow the facts to where they lead, you’d be surprised at the convictions that you get.
BEHAR: Sunny, these people are in a cult! They don’t know what the right thing is!
[Crosstalk]
GOLDBERG: Here’s what I’m tired of. I don’t want to hear any more people talking about what Hillary did. I don’t want to hear any more talk about what other people have done. Because none of them – not one of them has said no to any of the inquires no matter how poorly they were fashioned or questioned. No body fought it. Everybody said, “Look in and see what you find.” That's what I want.
See, I don’t want to hear you say, [mocking voice] “Well, Hillary, and why didn’t she get rid of-” I don’t want to hear that anymore. I don't want to hear people talk about “Biden did it.” Biden was not the president, y'all. He was the vice president!
HAINES: And he's still under investigation.
GOLDBERG: Which means that it would have meant the president had to have declassified it. That was Obama at the time. Okay?
Let's just be clear about what's happening. The man broke the law. He's on tape. He's on tape saying, “Well, I knew they weren't declassified, but you know.” He said, no, when they asked him, “do you have more stuff?” He said, “Nah, I gave you everything I had.”
HOSTIN: He had his lawyers lie for him. And the boxes were in his bathroom.
GOLDBERG: Well, I've kept stuff in the bathroom.
[Laughter]
