The View Defends Biden’s Lack of Transparency, Holidays Distracted Him

24 hours after dubiously suggesting Republicans may have planted the classified documents in President Biden’s garage in Delaware, racist co-host Sunny Hostin of ABC’s The View refused to walk back that conspiracy theory Friday. Instead, she floated a contrived excuse for why Biden was not transparent with the American people about the documents being found some six years after he left the Obama administration: he was distracted by the holidays.

Following the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Hur to investigate Biden’s gross mishandling of national security secrets, the tone of their defense was notably different and imparted a real sense of concern for the President.

Self-described conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out the “terrible fact pattern” surrounding the case and how the Biden White House hid this from Americans for months. “He knew of the second tranche that was found in his garage on December 20th, but we only know now because the press was going to report it and they came forward,” she said.

Hostin then stepped up to the plate to defend the embattled President, arguing that he did everything right.

“So we know November 2nd Biden's lawyers discovered this small number of classified documents and we're hearing there were ten of them. When that happens, you do immediately contact the National Archives. You do immediately contact the Justice Department, and then an investigation starts. It can be at a palatial pace, that is very true,” she said (misusing the word “palatial”).

But the crux of her excuse for the lack of transparency with the public was that the investigation occurred at a busy time and Biden was distracted:

I don't think between November 2nd and December 20th which is less than I think about six weeks, for them to continue -- to complete that type of investigation is so crazy. I also will say – because I've conducted these investigations.

I will also say I think the holidays helped them out a little bit. You're talking about December 20th, then you're talking about Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year's eve, and then finally when they get back when everybody gets back, that's when they say, “we found these extra things.”

“It's like comparing apples to orangutans,” she whined about comparisons to former President Trump’s saga with classified documents. She even regurgitated her previous BLI LIE that the FBI who raided Mar-a-Lago found documents hidden in a “golden toilet.”

But Joy Behar wasn’t buying it. “All that looks different but I think it still looks bad for Biden. I do. I think it doesn’t look good for him,” she fretted.

On Thursday, Hostin suggested “Republicans are behind” how the documents got in Biden’s garage and Penn Biden Center office.

But she wasn’t the only one to defend Biden on Friday. Faux Republican and friend of Biden, Ana Navarro huffed that the documents he had were no big deal because “nobody was missing them for seven years.”

“This guy – Biden could have easily flushed them down the toilet, had his crazy German Shepherd eat them, or burnt them in the fireplace, but he didn't. What did he do? He self-reported,” she shrieked and she rocked back and forth in her chair.

To her credit, Navarro did flush Hostin’s nonsense about the golden toilet.

JOY BEHAR: So, I ask you, Alyssa, how bad is this for Biden?

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: It's pretty bad. It's a terrible fact pattern, and the dates are the hardest part.

So, we talked yesterday about the original tranche of documents he knew about before the midterms. He didn't want to do it because of the politics of putting that information out there ahead of the midterms. He knew of the second tranche that was found in his garage on December 20th, but we only know now because the press was going to report it and they came forward.

I would encourage the height of transparency here going forward. If you know of anything more, tell the public now because this isn’t – When we're not talking about classified documents, we're talking about national security secrets. These involve Ukraine, Iran. That means it could put the lives of assets in the field, American troops, American Intel officers at risk if in the wrong hands. It's a very big deal.

And the final thing I'll say is, I don't think that we should hold ourselves as a country to the standard of, “Yeah, but Donald Trump did it, so it's okay.” That's the lowest possible bar imaginable and we can't excuse what Biden did just because Trump did it.

SUNNY HOSTIN: I'm going to disagree with you a little on it in terms of the timeline of events.

So we know November 2nd Biden's lawyers discovered this small number of classified documents and we're hearing there were ten of them. When that happens, you do immediately contact the National Archives. You do immediately contact the Justice Department, and then an investigation starts. It can be at a palatial pace, that is very true.

But let’s say this, they interview the President. He’s not always that available, but they interview him and he says, “it could be here, it could be there, it could be here, it could be there. Please have at it and look in these places.”

I don't think between November 2nd and December 20th which is less than I think about six weeks, for them to continue -- to complete that type of investigation is so crazy. I also will say – because I've conducted these investigations.

BEHAR: All right.

HOSTIN: I will also say I think the holidays helped them out a little bit. You're talking about December 20th, then you're talking about Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year's eve, and then finally when they get back, when everybody gets back, that's when they say, “we found these extra things.”

I don't think it's -- it's like comparing apples to orangutans to say ten documents were found. We decided that we would cooperate, but 300 or more documents were found in a golden toilet. That's very different.

BEHAR: All that looks different but I think it still looks bad for Biden. I do. I think it doesn’t look good for him.

Hostin: It does look bad for Biden.

ANA NAVARRO: Listen. I don't think they're hiding anything, and the reason I don't think that is --

SARA HAINES: I don’t think they are but –

NAVARO: But let me say this. These documents are at least six, seven years old. Nobody was missing them for seven years. This guy – Biden could have easily flushed them down the toilet, had his crazy German Shepherd eat them, or burnt them in the fireplace, but he didn't. What did he do? He self-reported.

NAVARRO: They discovered classified documents --

HOSTIN: Were some in a toilet bowl?

NAVARRO: Let me finish this.

HOSTIN: But were they in a toilet bowl.

NAVARRO: No, they weren't in a toilet bowl.

HOSTIN: Oh, I got that wrong.
