The Christmas spirit was alive and well on The View Thursday morning … if the Christmas spirit was about questioning the constitutional right to freedom of speech, smearing Republicans as peddlers of toxic comments, all while whining about how no one acts with civility anymore.
Outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) daughter Alexandra Pelosi was on the show to hawk her new gooey documentary about her mom on January 6. As part of the interview, Pelosi denounced social media and blamed mean comments for tearing at the fabric of the country.
Pelosi got agreement from the rest of the cast when she smeared Republicans as itching to tear down America like on January 6:
So, this is the thing. I want to say, I had this conversation with my sister, you know, my sister married a Republican, nice guy. And I say, you know, she says, “you can't blame these things on Republicans.” I say, “Well, look. Everybody who voted for Trump did not storm the Capitol on January 6, but everyone who stormed the Capitol on January 6 voted for Donald Trump.”
She even hinted that her Republican brother-in-law was partially responsible for January 6, despite saying he’d never storm the Capitol:
PELOSI: And so, we have to put this into perspective. A lot of Republicans feel it's not fair to say you can blame this kind of attack on the Republicans. So, I’m not. I'm not saying that my brother-in-law is the kind of person that would storm into somebody's house and attack them in the middle of the night, BUT the talk that is out there trickles down to people who are --
JOY BEHAR: Susceptible.
According to her, Republican rhetoric was responsible for what “happened to Steve Scalise.” In reality, the terrorist that attacked the Republican congressional baseball practice was a liberal extremist and rabid MSNBC viewer.
Despite the facts, Joy Behar called Republican rhetoric “very dangerous.” Pelosi went on to call it “uncivilized” and questioned the right to free speech: “And so, we're talking about, is this a democracy if you can say these things?” Even more bizarrely, Pelosi suggested that receiving mean tweets “hurts more than the actual … scalp surgery” her father had to endure after getting attacked in his home.
As they were wrapping up the first half of the interview, Whoopi Goldberg hypocritically lamented the death of civil discourse:
They don’t seem to be able to have these conversations. I mean you can – I grew up with people feeling differently, and you always said, well, okay. We agree to disagree. Now you don't people don't have that ability.

PELOSI: Unchecked that you can put all kinds of toxic --
SUNNY HOSTIN: They never say it to your face either.
PELOSI: Never.
BEHAR: They’re all anonymous. They should change that rule. You have to identify who you are. A lot of them would keep their mouths shut.
