ABC, Telemundo Whine: Trump Picked too Many White People for SCOTUS

May 19th, 2016 1:20 AM

While most people would evaluate a Supreme Court pick by their history as a lawyer and/or judge, ABC and Telemundo evaluated Donald Trump’s SCOTUS picks by the color of their skin. “Donald Trump revealed the names of 11 judges that he’s considering to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court, if he makes it to the White House,” reported Telemundo’s Maria Celeste Arraras Wednesday evening, “What stands out is that no Hispanics were included.” ABC’s Tom Llamas expressed a similar concern during World News Tonight.

On Trump's list, eight men and three women. All conservative, all white, most under 55 years old,” Llamas said. He also noted that there was one name that stood out in particular, Judge Don Willet who is a major critic on Trump. “Texas Supreme Court Judge Don Willett tweeting just last month, "We'll rebuild the Death Star. It'll be amazing, believe me. And the Rebels will pay for it. Darth Trump," Llamas repeated with enjoyment.

At the end of his report, Llamas found amusement in Judge Willet’s response to the news that Trump is thinking of him. “That Texas judge we mentioned in our story laughed off the possibility that he could be one of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court picks,” he teased, “Instead of commenting, Justice Don Willett said, quote he's, “exercising judicial restraint.”

Many conservatives have been impressed by Trump’s picks to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia. One of Trumps picks is Judge Diane Sykes, the ex-wife of radio host and #NeverTrump figure Charlie Sykes.

MARIA CELESTE ARRARÁS, HOST, TELEMUNDO: Donald Trump revealed the names of 11 judges that he’s considering to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court, if he makes it to the White House. What stands out is that no Hispanics were included. The post, if you remember, was vacated by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February and the Republican congress members have said that they will not confirm any of the candidates nominated by President Obama.

TOM LLAMAS: And releasing this list of 11 possible Supreme Court picks. He has promised the best.

TRUMP: If I win, we're gonna put good, solid, brilliant, conservative judges on the court.

LLAMAS: On Trump's list, eight men and three women. All conservative, all white, most under 55 years old. And at least one who has mocked Trump. Texas Supreme Court Judge Don Willett tweeting just last month, "We'll rebuild the death star. It'll be amazing, believe me. And the rebels will pay for it. Darth Trump." Is Trump looking past all that?
