Apparently, MarketWatch columnist Rex Nutting completely misunderstands the meaning of the c-word.
And by “c-word,” we, of course, mean “conservative.”
In his laughably headlined column: “Hillary Clinton will win because she’s the true conservative in this race,” Nutting liberally switches between the words “conservative” and “establishment,” arguing that both mean the same thing.
Nutting correctly points out that, out of the remaining candidates, Hillary is the one who most wants to maintain the status quo of the Obama years. But by that definition, Obama himself would be “conservative” if he ran for a third term.
Further proving that he utterly misunderstands political conservatism, he ends his column with a rant bemoaning how Obama’s liberal record could be undone by non-Hillary candidates.
“Will they give up their health insurance? Or the regulations that keep our skies clean, our water drinkable and our economy safe? Will they throw away the progressive tax system? Or Social Security, Medicare and the rest of the fragile safety net? What about the progress this nation has made in advancing the rights and opportunities of everyone, not just white males? Not to mention the economic progress the country has made since 2009?
“At this point in the campaign, many voters seem ready to cast their lot with candidates who promise to blow up everything and start over.”
