Hypocrite Scarborough Decries 'People On Cable Shows Paid To Say Things Are Catastrophic'

May 30th, 2023 1:20 PM

Joe Scarborough MSNBC Morning Joe 5-30-23 Joe Scarborough just made your search for the perfect Christmas gift for him a lot easier: make it a mirror! Because in a moment of utter obliviousness on Tuesday's Morning Joe, he praised President Biden and House Speaker McCarthy for acting like "grown-ups" in reaching a deal on the debt limit, Scarborough said:

"We live in this . . . political world that's designed to promote discord, division, hatred, where our political opponents are actually our sworn enemy....

And here, you know, the nation's economy was on the line. And, you know, he behaved responsibly. Biden behaved responsibly. They were grown-ups.

There are days we should wake up and say, you know what? Things are getting done. And it's not always quite as bleak and catastrophic as people who get paid a lot of money to say it is on, whether it's cable shows or online, or in podcasts, or in political speeches, or in books."

Scarborough condemning people who "promote discord, division, hatred, where our political opponents are actually our sworn enemy?" This from the guy whose stock in trade is to slur his political opponents as "fascists." The guy who offers much of his airtime to people claiming that "democracy is threatened, and on the line" if people vote Republican.

Scarborough bemoaning people on "cable shows" who get "paid a lot of money" to say that things are "bleak and catastrophic?" Again, this from the guy who knocks down a reported annual salary of $9 million. And whose wife and co-host, Mika "Know Your Value" Brzezinski, is said to get paid a similar amount to harshly condemn Republicans and conservatives.

Scarborough likes to mention his Baptist upbringing. So he's surely familiar with the Sermon on the Mount, as recounted in Matthew 7:5, KJV.

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;

And then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

That Christmas-gift mirror should come in handy for beam-spotting.

Note: Back in January, we caught Scarborough mocking Kevin McCarthy as a "snowflake" for negotiating with members of his caucus in order to win the Speakership. Boasted Muy Macho Joe: "I'd die before continuing to negotiate against myself" like McCarthy. So let's get this straight, Joe. A Republican willing to negotiate with Democrats? A praiseworthy adult! A Republican willing to negotiate with his fellow Republicans? A snowflake! Gotcha.

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough decrying people who get "paid a lot on cable shows" to talk about how "bleak and catastrophic" things are was sponsored by Avis and Allstate.

Here's the transcript.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Joe, on the debt ceiling, you said they'd get there, but how'd they finally do it?

JOE SCARBOROUGH: They had no choice. They got there. And, you know, we live in this world that's designed  -- this political world that's designed to promote discord, division, hatred, where our political opponents are actually our sworn enemy.

And I do know that there are far too many people who want to, want to set aside democratic elections. We saw it happen on January 6th. There is much to mourn about the direction that some have decided to take this country in.

But, but you look, Willie, and, and you see that you actually have, in Joe Biden, and here, Kevin Mccarthy, but you have a Democratic president and a Republican Senate and now House, that have worked together in pretty historic ways over the past year and a half. Getting bipartisan legislation.

And let's look at Kevin McCarthy really quickly here. This is Kevin McCarthy, who many said for quite some time, for good reason, were concerned that he was going to go sideways on supporting freedom fighters in Ukraine. We heard him shut down that Russian reporter said, get out of their country. Stop killing their children. Stop committing war crimes.

And here, you know, the nation's economy was on the line. And, you know, he behaved responsibly. Biden behaved responsibly. They were grown-ups.

And so, again, we should worry about things that we should worry about. But there are days we should wake up and say, you know what? Things are getting done. And it's not always quite as bleak and catastrophic as people who get paid a lot of money to say it is on, whether it's cable shows or online, or in podcasts, or in political speeches, or in books.

Sometimes. grown-ups are actually in charge in Washington, D.C., and things get done
