Michael Steele, Who Wanted To Repeal Roe, Now Bemoans 'Criminalizing Women's Wombs'

Michael Steele MSNBC Morning Joe 5-18-23Michael Steele has come full circle: from once being a supposedly committed conservative as chairman of the Republican National Committee to a reliable liberal mouthpiece, dutifully parroting the liberal talking points of the day on MSNBC.

Sometimes he sounds like he's playing sidekick Ed McMahon to one MSNBC host or another. On Thursday's Morning Joe, in an abortion conversation, Joe Scarborough said "Democrats have been wildly overperforming, even in red areas," and Steele echoed: "That's exactly right, Joe."

Mika Brzezinski then unloaded the pro-abortion sophistry of describing abortion as "health care," and "a procedure that women need for their health."

There can, of course, be situations in which an abortion is necessary to preserve the life of the mother, and all legislation limiting abortion makes an exception for such cases. But the great majority of abortions are elective in nature. They are not needed "for the health of the mother." They are performed as a matter of the woman's personal preference. Would the pro-abortion crowd support prohibiting such elective abortions? Of course not.

Once again, Steele offered an echo: "Can I just put an exclamation point on that? Because I think a lot of the public narrative around this issue is way off base." This, from Steele, who in his supposedly conservative past wanted to repeal Roe!

Steele even attempted to claim that pro-lifers don't like "what's been happening with criminalizing the wombs of women. Penalizing those who help them, who are trying to get the kind of medical care and attention that they need." A NARAL pro-abortion extremist couldn't have said it better.

t's rather pathetic to see Steele obsequiously toadying up to the Morning Joe hosts. It's sad. It clearly looks like the dollars and the contracts lined up on the opposite side of the fence.

On Morning Joe, ex-conservative Michael Steele, in a discussion of abortion, bemoaning Republicans "criminalizing the wombs of women" was sponsored in part by Consumer Cellular, Infiniti, Liberty Mutual, and Men's Warehouse.

Here's the transcript.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I mean, from Jacksonville, to Wisconsin, to Kansas, Democrats have been wildly overperforming, even in red areas.

MICHAEL STEELE: That's exactly right, Joe.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: How much does abortion have to play with that, when you look at these, what's happening in these states? I just can't imagine that these bans, these stricter laws on a procedure that women need for their health, isn't impacting the way even some Republicans vote. I'm sorry, whether they say i tor not, they understand that women need health care. It's not their business, or that women need health care.

STEELE: Can I just put an exclamation point on that? Because I think a lot of the public narrative around this issue is way off base.

People want to fall into this pro-life versus, you know, pro-choice camp. You know, the world is just kind of moving in this pro-life direction.

The reality of this, a lot of pro-life voters do not like what's been happening in these state legislatures. Do not like what's been happening with criminalizing the wombs of women. Penalizing those who help them, who are trying to get the kind of medical care and attention that they need.

And so, if you keep believing that everybody is buying what you're selling, you continue to sell bad stuff. And you're seeing this play out in ways that, you know, Kansas City becomes a, a real big example of the problem the party is having on an issue like abortion.
