MSNBC's Donny Deutsch Urges Democrat Debaters: 'Assault' Trump the 'Ogre'

September 12th, 2019 10:25 AM

On today's Morning Joe, Donny Deutsch urged the Democrats participating in tonight's debate to "assault" President Trump, because "we need to get rid of this ogre."  Deutsch claims nothing else matters because "our democracy is under siege."

Instead of squabbling over their various plans to wreck America's health care system, or who said what about busing 35 years ago, Deutsch urged the Democrats participating in tonight's debate to focus their fire on President Trump...as if they haven't been doing that.

"I hope one of them stands up, and understands what the American people want to hear tonight. And they want to hear is an assault on Donald Trump."

So Deutsch thinks that what "the American people" want to hear is an "assault" on the President of the United States. Is that why CNN and MSNBC are crushing Fox News in the ratings? Sure, it would warm the cockles of lefty hearts. But it would also fire up the Trump base, and turn off many swing voters. Deutsch also tried to get under Trump's skin by describing his sense of self as "tiny."

So go ahead, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren et al.: take Deutsch's advice and turn tonight's debate into a contest of who can launch the most over-the-top attack on President Trump. After the debacle of CNN's climate town halls, you'll only be providing more fodder for Republican ads.

Here's the transcript.

Morning Joe
9/12/19
6:14 AM EDT

JOE SCARBOROUGH:  I wonder why Democrats are so weak? Why are the Democrats so weak that they cannot politically pound a guy who’s made friends with the Russians, the North Koreans, the Taliban, and now the Iranians?

DONNY DEUTSCH: Joe, I’m glad you moved to the Democrats. As far as Trump destroying everything that came before him, I’ve worked with CEOs, and the weakest, the tiniest CEOs are the ones that come aboard and have to break everything or disacknowledge anything before them, because their sense of self is so small and so tiny. I’ve worked with those sort of CEOs.

As far as the Democrats, I’m sure we’re going to talk a lot about the debates. I really hope tonight one if not all of them shows leadership and understand the game is not single-payer health insurance. The game is, we need to get rid of this ogre, and go at him strong. And the very speech that you gave, throughout the night I would like to hear Joe Biden, I would like to hear Elizabeth Warren: that is what a leader would do. Nothing else matters right now. We are, our democracy is under siege. I have not seen it in the first three debates. I’ve seen them go after Barack Obama, I’ve seen them go after each other, I've seen them go after busing. I hope one of them stands up and understands what the American people want to hear tonight. And they want to hear is an assault on Donald Trump.
