Here's what passes for humor in the age of CNN Trump-hatred: joking about whether President Trump meant to say that his hospital visit to victims of the Vegas massacre caused many deaths.
This morning's New Day devoted a segment to Trump's Daily Caller interview of yesterday. Co-host John Berman made a big point that "the president hasn't been seen in public in five days," but he's giving interviews to a "friendly media site," which is not how CNN describes its town hall meetings with "Medicare for All" Democrats:
JOHN BERMAN: He [Trump] tried to compare, or juxtapose, Laura [Jarrett], the Mueller investigation to the Las Vegas massacre investigation. Let me preface this by saying the one place I've seen that repeatedly is on Tucker Carlson on Fox News. Tucker has made that a big deal, saying "The FBI can't solve Las Vegas because it's spending too much time on Mueller." This is what the President said: 'you had so many people killed and so badly wounded, because I went to the hospital'—I don't think he meant they were killed because he went to the hospital. But he did go to the hospital."
CNN reporter Laura Jarrett shot back: "He wants credit for going to the hospital."
There is no sentient person on the planet who understood Trump's statement other than as the President intended it: that he knew the extent of the deaths and injuries because he had visited victims in the hospital. It was entirely superfluous and unnecessary for Berman to have CNN-splained that point. Berman's crack can only be understood as an unnecessary, gratuitous swipe at President Trump.
If President Obama had made the identical remark, in a billion years can you imagine Berman or any other MSMer engaging in such contemptuous wordplay? Not Laura Jarrett, whose mother Valerie Jarrett was one of Obama's closest advisers.
Note: as Berman unleashed his "killed because he went to the hospital" line, a panelist can be heard snickering off-camera. Liberal comic gold, I guess.
