ABC News reporter David Wright chose an odd metaphor to describe criticism of the possible timing of the selection of Pope Benedict XVI's successor.
Wright, speaking live from the Vatican on today's Good Morning America, reported that yesterday the Vatican spokesman had floated a trial balloon suggesting that the conclave to choose a new Pope could be moved up from its originally established date of March 15th. Continued Wright: "but in other quarters of the Church, that trial balloon is being shot down faster than an old-school nun might rap you on the knuckles." View the video after the jump.
Somehow it's hard to imagine an MSM member using such a dated metaphor to describe the actions of other religious or ethnic groups. Your thoughts?
DAVID WRIGHT: The Pope just finished his weekly Angelus, and only one more time will he appear in that window, so a huge crowd gathered here at St. Peter's today, but already behind the scenes the focus has turned to choosing his successor. The Vatican spokesman yesterday floating a trial balloon suggesting that the conclave to choose a new Pope could take place before March 15th. Some say that's just common sense because there's no funeral this time, no period of mourning, and all the Cardinals will presumably be in town to say good-bye to Pope Benedict, but in other quarters of the church, that trial balloon is being shot down faster than an old-school nun might wrap you on the knuckles.
