NBC Frets Over Trump’s ‘Fitness’ for Office, ‘Mental Acuity’

November 12th, 2019 12:15 PM

Wrapping up her live interview with former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday, Today show host Savannah Guthrie grilled her guest on President Trump’s “fitness” for office and “mental acuity.” Despite Haley vouching for Trump’s ability to handle the job, Guthrie repeatedly pressed the issue.

“I am way over time, but let me just quickly, because it’s been out there and you worked in this administration, did you ever have any doubt about the fitness of this president to serve?,” Guthrie asked. Haley dismissed the suggestion: “I never did.” Guthrie followed up: “Any doubt about his mental acuity?” Again, Haley replied that she “never did.”

Refusing to accept those answers and let the matter drop, Guthrie pressed: “Any question about his truthfulness, his ability to tell the truth?” Haley explained: “Savannah, I talked to him multiple times and when I had issues he always heard me out. I never had any concern on whether he could handle the job, ever.”

“And what about his truthfulness, did you think he was a truthful person?,” Guthrie demanded. Haley responded: “Yes. In every instance that I dealt with him he was truthful, he listened, and he was great to work with.”

Of course when Guthrie noted that questions about the President’s fitness for office and mental faculties have “been out there,” she must be referring to her own network’s routinely hostile coverage making such declarations:

Earlier in the Tuesday interview, Haley told Guthrie that “you have to look at Biden” when discussing Ukraine and the impeachment hearings against the President.
