Late Night host Seth Meyers is still proving how he might be better suited working in a Democrat’s press office rather than being a late night “comedian.” On his early Thursday morning show, Meyers went on a long-winded rant session mocking the GOP and nutty, fringe freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). But he also used the opportunity to ardently defend radical Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, as he’s done in the past.
After an insult and profanity-filled monologue attacking the GOP, he moved on to be outraged at conservative comparisons to another offensive Congresswoman, Ilhan Omar.
Meyers lectured it was “racist and disgusting” to even associate the congresswomen from two different parties, even though both have promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and downplayed the September 11 terrorist attacks:
SETH MEYERS: But I have to say the most vile defense of Greene I saw today came from Republicans on Fox News, which repeatedly tried to equate her with Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar, including this comment from Bill Hemmer.
FNC COMMENTATOR JUAN WILLIAMS: What she's doing is a whole different kettle of fish.
FNC HOST BILL HEMMER: One might be weird and kooky, Josh, the other is seen as racist.
MEYERS: Let's see, one wants Medicare for all and the other thinks a Jewish space laser starts wildfires! Seriously, what's wrong with you? There's no equivalence and any attempt to create one is disgusting and racist. Greene has refused to apologize, despite sharing anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic posts questioning whether a plane really crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11, suggesting that school shootings were faked, that Nancy Pelosi should be executed, that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim, that Muslims shouldn't be allowed to serve at all in the government and once again, that a Jewish space laser starts wildfires that's way beyond weird and kooky.
Convenient how Meyers left out every similarly offensive comment made by the Democrat rep. He constructs a straw man, scoffing that “Medicare for All” is what Omar’s biggest controversy is; not her repeated patterns of anti-Semitism, anti-Americanism, anti-Israel hate or her sick comments downplaying 9/11. She seems to have a whole lot in common with Greene in that aspect. But the media treatment of the two couldn’t be more different. Going through our NewsBusters archive on Omar's mentions from 2019, you can see how virtually every mainstream network and journalist rebuked the GOP for calling out Omar’s offensive comments, while they downplayed them, lamented that they were “out of context” or just refused to cover them at all. Compare that to how just about every show, every hour from the news media is being spent obsessing over Greene this past week.
