Catfight! Joy Behar and Meghan McCain's Political Debate TURNS UGLY On 'View'

January 5th, 2021 2:48 PM

It’s only conservative co-host Meghan McCain’s second show back at The View since returning from maternity leave, but she’s already brawling with Joy Behar

A heated political debate turned chaotic after Behar personally insulted her co-host, on Tuesday's show.

The panel was discussing whether there should be a third major political party in U.S. politics for the “moderates" or the "extremists (ie: "Trumpians"). Whoopi Goldberg brought up “the extreme Trumpian” or the Tea Party as examples of the extreme right, but did not provide an example of the extreme left in the Democrat Party. Joy Behar also characterized only Republicans having a troublesome fringe faction:

BEHAR: The Republicans need -- let the Republicans fight amongst themselves. On the one hand you have the Republicans, on the other you have the seditionists. That’s the fight you have going on in the Republican Party right now. In the Democrat Party you have the progressives versus the moderates which is you know-- de rigueur as they say. You know it’s what it always is. It's typical politics. The Republican Party is in much more trouble right now.

McCain took issue with that and jumped in to say, “Are you kidding me?”

Behar was furious at being cut off and snapped, “Excuse me! Am I done? I'm not done!” But McCain kept talking, destroying her argument:

MCCAIN: Well it’s just that’s completely inaccurate. You have AOC fighting about whether or not she'll primary Chuck Schumer, coming out saying she has the full support of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. You have the squad that’s coming out very intensely, very angry that Biden hasn’t filled his cabinet with more progressives, Bernie Sanders also coming out saying he's angry. The idea that there isn’t fighting within the Democrat Party as well---

That's when things got ugly, as Behar reacted again:

BEHAR: I was speaking!

MCCAIN: I know, but you're --

BEHAR: I'm talking about -- I’m talking -- I’m talking--

[cross-talk]

BEHAR: I’m talking about traitors---traitors--

MCCAIN: [teasing] Joy, you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave. You missed me so much. You missed fighting with me.

BEHAR: I did not. I did not miss you. Zero.

MCCAIN: Oh my God.

[cross-talk]

WHOOPI: Somebody answer the question.

SUNNY HOSTIN: Whoopi can I weigh in?

MCCAIN: You know what? That's so nasty. That's so nasty. I was teasing--

WHOOPI: Guys!

MCCAIN: You said something rude. Like really?

WHOOPI: Hold on! Everybody stop. Everybody stop.

MCCAIN: That's so rude.

Whoopi was finally able to cut in to lecture, "This is not the way -- this is not the way to do it," before asking for co-host Sara Haines' response to the political topic at hand. The show hosts were supposed to return for a part two after the break, but that plan was scrapped after this hostile segment.

This isn't the first time The View hosts have exploded on each other. In 2018, the liberal panel turned on the only pro-life host with Whoopi yelling that McCain and Republicans need to "get out of my vagina." At the end of 2019, Whoopi lost her temper with McCain again, telling her, “Girl, please stop talking! Please stop talking right now!”

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: I was posing the question as to whether we think there should be more than two parties, Democrats and Republicans. Because you have conservatives and then you have the Trumpians. To me you then have extremists which is what the Tea Party was to me, which is what sort of the extreme Trumpian feels like. So it is time for us to really start slicing this up? Whoever? Sara?

JOY BEHAR: The Republicans need -- let the Republicans fight amongst themselves. On the one hand you have the Republicans, on the other you have the seditionists. That’s the fight you have going on in the Republican Party right now. In the Democrat Party you have the progressives versus the moderates which is you know-- de rigueur as they say.
