In between their constant, bitter attacks against Republicans, The View co-hosts found time Tuesday to fawn over the kind of Republican they actually like --- the ones who campaign for Democrats. Cindy McCain was welcomed to the show where she spent the entire first segment appealing to Americans to vote for Joe Biden.
After giving their condolences for her mother-in-law’s passing as well as congratulations for daughter and co-host Meghan McCain giving birth to a girl, Joy Behar immediately began touting her “brave” endorsement. She wondered if Republicans had “turned on her”:
[Y]ou bravely crossed the aisle and threw your support behind Joe Biden. How is that playing with your home state and with your friends, your Republican friends? Are they okay with that or turning on you? What's going on?
Really how surprising or “brave” is it that McCain is endorsing Biden, given her family’s self-admitted friendship with the Bidens and her late husband’s bitter history with President Trump? But it's in the media's interest to hype these types of endorsements for the left.
McCain carefully avoided discussing Biden’s left-wing policies in her appeal for why he should be president. She instead touted the debunked anonymous Atlantic report about Trump disparaging fallen soldiers to say she wanted Biden and Harris because they can return us to "civility" and “put us back on the right track.” But McCain spoke in praise of Biden at the DNC and then endorsed him September 23 after The Atlantic hitjob was published September 3.
Regardless, the co-hosts eagerly praised the endorsement with “love it” and “good for you.” Sunny Hostin also made sure McCain talked up Harris, asking about her work with the Senator to prosecute human traffickers. Afterwards, the hosts gushed over how "beautiful," "elegant," and "wonderful" it was to see a Republican speaking about Biden at the DNC:
WHOOPI: The great thing is that you don't always have to agree 100% with what somebody stands for.
MCCAIN: Right.
WHOOPI: You have to agree they are the best person to take the country in hand and move us forward and so I just have to say it was beautiful to see and such a -- as Joy said, it was really elegant and wonderful. I appreciate it. It's not even about left and right. It's about forward. How do we get forward and past this insanity?
As McCain rehashed how her late husband's relationship with Biden showed what was "right with America," "putting country above party," Joy Behar hoped more Republicans would follow the McCain example and side with Democrats. Funny how bipartisanship never requires Democrats to side with Republicans:
BEHAR: Your husband proved that when he saved--
WHOOPI; It's good to see.
BEHAR:-- Your husband saved the ACA [Affordable Care Act]. Your husband really went in here and saved the ACA. It was like a moment of total patriotism. I really believe Cindy we're in an emergency situation in this country right now with Trump and his enablers. I absolutely salute you for putting country above party. It really is inspiring. I wish more Republicans would do that...
Behar and Whoopi ended the segment complaining about Republicans being unwilling to "lose their jobs," (i.e. their seats in Congress, to defect to the left).
Just last month, The View brought on another Republican Biden-endorser in John Kasich to convince conservatives that Biden is a moderate.
Republicans eager to trash the president and endorse Joe Biden are given special treatment by the media. Some networks even reward them by giving them TV gigs!

JOY BEHAR: Let me ask you a political question, because you bravely crossed the aisle and threw your support behind Joe Biden. How is that playing with your home state and with your friends, your Republican friends? Are they okay with that or turning on you? What's going on?
CINDY MCCAIN: The reason I did this is because I, like many Americans, want a country that's more civil, that has a leader that is not only -- not only has a plan for not just covid, but a plan for the country to dig out of this mess. More importantly respects our troops, respects our men and women who serve. I just don't believe my two sons are losers and suckers. There were a lot of reasons. That was the culminating portion of it. I really believe that Joe can put us on the right track. Something has to put us back on the right track. I believe both Joe and Kamala can do that.
WHOOPI: Love it.
BEHAR: Good for you.
SUNNY HOSTIN: Speaking about Kamala, you said it wasn't just about Joe Biden. You worked with his running mate Senator Kamala Harris before. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
MCCAIN: Well, I've worked with Kamala on human trafficking issues and in particular on the back page issue with Kamala was a huge portion of, making sure we put those guys -- try those guys and put them away. That was a huge thing that she was able to help us get shut down. She's a brilliant mind, not only in that arena, but many different issues as well. They make a good team.
[cross-talk agreement]
WHOOPI: How do we get forward and past this insanity?
[cross-talk]
CINDY MCCAIN: The thing about Joe and John were -- they were a perfect example of what was right about America. They worked together. They didn't always agree. In fact they rarely agreed on any issue. They worked together for the good of the country, not the good of the party. They would argue, and have lunch afterwards. It was truly what the system was about in those days.
BEHAR: Your husband proved that when he saved--
WHOOPI; It's good to see.
BEHAR:-- Your husband saved the ACA. Your husband really went in here and saved the ACA. It was like a moment of total patriotism. I really believe Cindy we're in an emergency situation in this country right now with Trump and his enablers. I absolutely salute you for putting country above party. It really is inspiring. I wish more Republicans would do that. They're so scared of him. They're scared of losing their job. You know how many jobs I have lost in my day? So many jobs. And yet they're so scared of losing their jobs. It’s not the worst thing in the world to lose your job! It’s upsetting every day to watch this.
WHOOPI: Sometimes people need a change. I suspect we'll see a lot of what happens when the election happens. I think we'll see a lot of changes happening and I think it’s good because the thing you can't ever do with America is you can't take your eye off the prize. The prize is the American people. Once you sort of put them to the side, they don't really want to mess with you very much.
