On The View Tuesday co-host Sunny Hostin was the only one at the table who disagreed with Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, after she dismissed calls within her own party to impeach President Trump, saying he “wasn’t worth it.” Hostin disagreed, gushing that it was Democrats’ “job” and duty to start impeachment proceedings in the House, even if it didn’t go anywhere in the Senate.
Co-host Joy Behar recited Pelosi’s statement before revealing everyone at the table agreed with Pelosi, save for one co-host, Sunny Hostin. Behar didn’t remind her co-hosts or viewers of her own long history on the show of calling for President Trump’s impeachment or demanding he resign. Hostin then explained why she disagreed, explaining it was the House’s duty to impeach Trump, to instill “confidence” in the American people:
SUNNY HOSTIN: I don't agree. I think that the House has to do its job. Regardless if it doesn't go anywhere. And I think, you know, we all know that when you impeach a president, the House votes to impeach. But then the trial is held by the Senate. And because the House is run by Democrats, the House would likely impeach if they find high crimes and misdemeanors. The Senate would never convict him.
JOY BEHAR: Not at this point.
HOSTIN: Not at this point. Not at any point, I don't think honestly because it's so partisan right now. That doesn't mean the House shouldn't do its job and make sure that the people of the United States feel confident that at least one branch will do the job.
Behar, Abby Huntsman and Ana Navarro pointed out that President Clinton received his highest support in polls following his impeachment, so there could be a backlash for Democrats if they tried to do the same to Trump. Navarro pointed out that Pelosi “left herself some wiggle room” with the exception that they could impeach Trump if something so “compelling, overwhelming and bipartisan” were to be found against him.
“I think she's saying, we're not going to impeach Donald Trump over paying hush money for a stripper. Now if we find out that he's compromised by Russia, that he’s a Russian asset, I assure you that falls under something compelling and overwhelming,” Navarro said. But Hostin didn’t know if Republicans would even want Trump out of office if that was found out.
"That's the thing. Do you get a president out by voting? Of course. That's part of the process. But the Constitution is also very much part of the process," she gushed.
Huntsman confronted Hostin at the end of the segment, asking her directly if she’d be “satisfied” if the Mueller report doesn’t reveal any collusion between President Trump and the Russians in the 2016 election.
“I would be satisfied when the process works the way it’s supposed to work,” Hostin stated, which basically is the left’s way of saying the Mueller report will never be complete until it reveals collusion.
