Behar Begs Jarrett to Get Obama to Attack Trump: ‘This Is An Emergency!’

The View continued its pathetic pandering to Democrat party officials today, after having Cynthia Nixon and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the show in the past few weeks for softball interviews. Former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett appeared on Wednesday’s show for another friendly conversation, where host Joy Behar lamented that Trump was going to destroy the world and it was imperative that Obama condemn him publicly.

They opened by asking Jarrett about Roseanne Barr’s recent apology over her racist tweet targeting Jarrett. Jarrett denied being concerned about it, saying that what “really kept her up at night” was Trump’s border policy. Behar wondered if Trump causing a nuclear war was also what worried her:

JARRETT: In all seriousness, as I have said before, I'm fine. I am just fine. If one of you said something like that about me, that might hurt my feelings, but this isn't what keeps me up at night. What keeps me up at night are those families being separated on the borders.

Or our children -- right? Our children that go to school worrying about whether or not they are going to be safe, when their parents drop them up. These are the things that keep me up at night.

BEHAR: Or destroying the world how about that?

[cross-talk]

JARRETT: Racist tweets and Roseanne videos, no. Not so much.

Behar confessed to Jarrett that she feared the world was in trouble with Trump as President and that her former boss needed to buck decorum and speak out loudly against Trump. Nevermind that both the former President and First Lady have already done so numerous times. Apparently not nasty enough for Behar who practically begged Jarrett to make Obama speak out again. “This is an emergency!” she gushed:

BEHAR: So you know what I want to talk about with you?

JARRETT: What's that?

BEHAR: Obama, the real president that we just had -- [ applause ] Thank you. He gave a speech in South Africa where he said -- this is a quote. We see the utter loss of shame among political leaders where they are caught in a lie and they just double down and lie some more. Now, you know, we know who he is talking about, but he doesn't mention Trump's name in there, and I believe that we are in an emergency situation. People say I'm -- oh, chicken little, the sky is falling. I read the paper and I watch everything. I believe we're in a lot of trouble here that I have never seen before in my lifetime of any president, and I would like Obama to speak out against it because I know it's bad form very often for a former president to speak of a sitting president, but this is an emergency.

Jarrett waffled, saying that it was the public's responsibility to act as the #resistance against Trump:

It's not just bad form, but I think his view is, and he said this before he left office, it's time for all of us to step up. He is now a citizen just like all of you, and he is spending time helping the next generation of leaders and we shouldn't just look to his voice all the time. Your voices are just as important.

“Oh, no, no, they are not!” Behar scoffed.

“Maybe not just as important, but very important,” Jarrett chuckled. "What he has said, and he has been true to his word, is when the values of our country are at stake, whether it's losing health care or the Iran deal or just the general tone which is what he alluded to last week, he will use his voice, but he will be judicious," she stated.

Jarrett added that it was a waste of time for President Obama to condemn Trump because he'd have to do it "every single day."

"Let's face it. He could speak up every single day, right? That's not the way he wants to spend his time," she said.

Afterwards Meghan McCain asked Jarrett if Ocasio-Cortez was the “future” of the Democrat party. Jarrett waffled again, saying that there were many faces to the Democrat party, and encouraged everyone to vote. McCain pressed Jarrett saying that there was a fracture within her party that they needed to address if they wanted to defeat Trump in 2020.

Jarrett denied a socialist running as a Democrat was a problem. She appealed to Obama winning two terms because he was about a “big tent” party, saying there was room for many different types of Democrats within the party.

Sara Haines followed up by asking Jarrett if she thought former Vice President Joe Biden would run in 2020 and if she thought he could win. Jarrett enthusiastically endorsed Biden, as the table agreed with her that he would be a great candidate.

They ended the interview by talking about Jarrett’s voting initiative ad with the Obamas and celebrities, encouraging people to vote, because of the results of the 2016 election.

“When we all vote, good things happen, and one thing that troubled me other than the outcome was that 43% of eligible Americans didn't vote, and we know in the midterms it's even less than that,” she gushed before listing off all the celebrities who participated.
