CBS's Colbert Begs Trump to Pick Him for 'Most Dishonest and Corrupt Media' Awards

While most of the media recoils at being called “fake news” by President Trump, CBS’s late night comedian Stephen Colbert begged the president to let him be called the “most dishonest” and “most corrupt” member of the media, on his show Wednesday night.

After Trump announced on Twitter earlier this week that he would be revealing his choices for the “most dishonest and corrupt media awards of the year” next Monday, Colbert sent out this sarcastic tweet last night before his show aired, saying he was “so excited” for the awards show, which he dubbed “the fakies:”

The Late Show host followed up this tweet by revealing more on his show Wednesday:

Monday, there's an award show everyone is going to be glued to, because last night, in between threatening nuclear war and going to sleep with his bed-cheeseburger, Donald Trump tweeted, "I will be announcing the most dishonest and corrupt media awards of the year on Monday at 5:00. Subjects will cover dishonesty and bad reporting in various categories from the fake news media. Stay tuned!

“Oh, I will be,” the comedian snarked. “I can't take my eyes off any part of your presidency. It's like watching a snake swallow democracy,” he cracked.

“Personally, I'm excited for ‘The most dishonest and corrupt media awards of the year,’ or as we call them in the biz, ‘The Fakies.’ Because nothing gives you more credibility than Donald Trump calling you a liar. And I, of course, don't want to get snubbed,” Colbert quipped.

“That's why tonight-- and this is true-- I have placed a billboard in Times Square-- 'The failing New York Times square'-- and purchased a full-page ad on my Twitter feed with a 'For your consideration' ad,” he revealed, showing a picture of the billboard.

After the audience cheered, Colbert continued revealing his plan:

I'm hoping to be nominated in all categories, including, "Outstanding achievement in parroting George Soros talking points," "Best sound mixing," "Best Chex mixing," "Least Breitbart-y," "The Eric Trump memorial award for disappointment," "Fakest dishonesty," "Corruptest fakeness," "Dishonestest corruption," and "Smallest button."

While this may be prime fodder for the liberal comedian’s audience, the credibility of the media is no laughing matter. When nearly half of voters believe the media deliberately fabricates stories about the president, it’s clear their reputation is in real jeopardy with the American public.

But NewsBusters’ studies have found that the media isn’t taking these cues to clean up the bias in their reporting. Our research found that from June through November this past year alone, the big three networks gave President Trump a whopping 91% negative coverage.

The Media Research Center already hosts an annual awards show called the “DisHonors Awards” that gives credit where credit is due to the most biased members of the liberal media.
