On Thursday night’s edition of MSNBC’s The ReidOut, host Joy Reid opened by doing what she does best: lying about and smearing conservatives with anything she can make up. This time, Reid decided to lie about conservatives and Republicans in the United States House of Representatives by claiming they want to drive the United States into default on its debt in order to hurt President Biden’s reelection chances. She even edited Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel’s comments on Fox News to make it seem like she was hoping for a default to help GOP chances in November 2024.
“One party has once again decided to take us here on purpose,” Reid cried. “And if you don't want to believe me, here's the evidence.” She then cut to an out-of-context clip of McDaniel allegedly saying “this is a President that is failing the American people. So I think that bodes very well for the Republican field.”
When Reid returned she huffed that McDaniel was “joining the quiet part out loud club with Matt Gaetz who said earlier this week that he and his MAGA colleagues do not feel like they should negotiate with our hostage.”
What McDaniel was really talking about was not the debt ceiling, but instead Biden’s failure on everything from the border to crime and beyond.
McDaniel’s comments were made during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s The Story with MacCallum after she was asked to respond to a recent GOP primary poll conducted by Quinnipiac University.
“What would you say to voters as they look at the numbers on the screen right now?” MacCallum asked.
“I think we’ve got to look at Biden's numbers. And that's where I think Republicans should be paying attention to his low approval. This is not a President that the American people feel is doing a good job on their behalf. The vast majority of Americans feel like we're not heading in the right track,” McDaniel said.
“Then you look at this debt ceiling crisis. You look at us about to default. And you see that the President took 90 days out from negotiating, he refused to come to the table with Republicans,” she added.
“Republicans have put a plan on the table and this is an MIA President when it comes to problems that the American people are facing, whether it's energy Independence, whether it's fentanyl, whether it's a broken border, whether it's crime surging in our streets.”
After McDaniel listed all those issues that Biden has failed America on, she said: “This is a President that is failing the American people. So I think that bodes very well for the Republican field.”
Reid is a dishonest liar and nobody should trust a word she says. If she tells you what day it is, you should double check your calendar.

3:25:08 p.m. EasternMARTHA MACCALLUM: Let's put up the numbers of where it stands right now. Which I would—this is a Quinnipiac poll. I would just urge everybody to take a look at these numbers and realize that this is nearly 18 months out. And this can be anybody's race. But the former President is clearly in a significant lead position right now, Ronna. What would you say to voters as they look at the numbers on the screen right now?
RONNA ROMNEY MCDANIEL: You know, I think it is early. I think we’ve got to look at Biden's numbers. And that's where I think Republicans should be paying attention to his low approval. This is not a President that the American people feel is doing a good job on their behalf. The vast majority of Americans feel like we're not heading in the right track.
