Hours after a radical transgender activist shot and killed six people at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, President Joe Biden’s first public comments on Monday were not about the heartbreaking mass shooting, they were a bizarre rambling rant about how much he loves ice cream, and how “good-looking” four of the kids in the audience were.
Imagine if former President Trump acted like this after a mass shooting. Creepy and thoroughly inappropriate comments like the ones Biden made would be aired and condemned on the nightly newscasts if Trump uttered them. Yet, sadly they were nowhere to be found on the big three evening newscasts of ABC’s World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, and NBC Nightly News.
All three networks did cover the shooting and correctly noted that the suspect identified as “transgender.” Maybe instead of CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell blaming gun violence, as NewsBusters previously reported, she could’ve aired Biden’s freakish ramblings.
Cutting live to Biden as he approached the podium to speak to an audience in the East Room of the White House for the second annual Small Business Administration Women’s Summit, Fox News Channel’s America Reports inadvertently aired Biden’s ramblings:
Thank you. My name is Joe Biden. I’m Dr. Jill Biden’s husband. And I eat Jeni’s Ice Cream, chocolate chip. I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream. By the way, I have a whole refrigerator full upstairs. You think I’m kidding, I’m not. Ben, how are you, pal?
After drooling over ice cream, Biden attempted to greet the gathered group he was speaking to before getting distracted by four little kids. “It’s a delight to have you all here,” Biden said before his eyes wandered. “And who are those good-looking kids back here?”
Biden then had a back-and-forth with the mother of the children before co-hosts John Roberts and Sandra Smith realized Biden had no intention to address the tragedy in Nashville anytime soon and decided to cut away so as to not waste their audience’s time (click "expand" to read):
SANDRA SMITH: John, we'll jump back in here,
JOHN ROBERTS: Yeah.
SMITH: Considering the moment.
ROBERTS: We were told—
SMITH: The school shooting that just happened, left three children dead, three adults dead, shooter’s dead, and we were told he would be addressing this off the top.
ROBERTS: Yeah, it’s rather surprising. I thought that a somber President Biden would have come to the podium here and addressed the school shooting. He's yucking it up with the crowd at the east room. So why don't we dump out of this and when the President decides that he's going to address this, we'll jump back into it?
It seemed as if the Biden White House had led the media to believe he would address the school shooting at the top of his remarks at a pre-scheduled Small Business Administration Women’s Summit since both Roberts & Smith seemed stunned that Biden was acting so bizarrely and seemed like nothing bad had happened that day.
The media made a big deal out of then-President Trump accidentally referring to Apple CEO Tim Cook as “Tim Apple.” It’s not hard to believe they wouldn’t be crowing over this if the parties were reversed.
This bias by omission from the three networks was made possible by Allstate on ABC, CarFax on CBS, and Progressive on NBC. Their information is linked.
