Reminiscing about how her father would end dinner table squabbles between her and her sister, Newsweek's Katie Connolly on Tuesday rejoiced that President Obama had said "Enough!" in order to get Senate Democrats in line:
Today, it sounds like the president has finally reached that point with the Senate Democrats and their increasingly aggravating health-care squabbles. He's ready to issue a steely "Enough." And not a minute too soon.
Not a minute too soon? Isn't Connolly supposed to be an objective reporter, not a cheerleader for a political party and its agenda? Oh, that's right, this is Newsweek, the magazine whose editor actually aspires to a smaller (and more liberal?) audience.
Of course, Newsweek is hardly alone in cheerleading ObamaCare. Over at Time magazine's Swampland blog yesterday, writers Karen Tumulty and Kate Pickert groaned about Republicans forcing the Senate clerk to read the 767-page amendment offered by socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Today, Time contributor Joe Klein slammed as "immoderate" Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) for his "unwillingness to compromise on abortion." In doing so, Klein griped, Nelson "neglects the millions of people, already born, whose lives are in danger because they have no access to preventative and chronic care."
Of course, it doesn't occur to Klein that abortion -- the termination of a human being in utero -- is hardly the pinnacle of the ideals of the Hippocratic Oath. Nor does Klein consider pro-choice hardliners to be the extremists who are holding up state-run health care for the sake of a radical pro-abortion lobby.
Nah, that's too unconventional a storyline for a pro-choice liberal activist masquerading as a journalist.
