GHOULISH: NBC’s Welker Pushes for Confiscatory Gun Buybacks Post-Winder School Shooting

It is often the case that tragedy brings out the worst in the Regime Media, some of whom see a school shooting as an opportunity to advocate for restrictive gun controls.

Watch as NBC’s Kristen Welker advocates for the mandatory gun buybacks proposed by then-Senator Kamala Harris in 2019, during her interview with Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock on Meet the Press:

NBC MEET THE PRESS

9/8/24

KRISTEN WELKER: Senator, let me ask you about some specific policies. In 2019, then-Senator Harris said she would support a mandatory gun buyback program for assault weapons, now her campaign says- and told me  overnight again, she will not push for mandatory buybacks but has expressed support for an assault weapons ban and extended background checks, red flag laws, but do you think that’s a mistake? Should she also be, in your opinion, supporting a mandatory gun buyback program?

RAPHAEL WARNOCK: Listen. We- we are not going to be able to get where we need to go without action in Congress. We’ve got to pass some laws to deal with this. Now, I was heartened by the fact that two years ago we finally did a gun safety law- the Safer Communities Act. And it was the first gun safety law we passed in 30 years. 30 years. And it was modest, but it did save lives. But clearly, in the wake of what happened just the other day in Winder, Georgia, it is not enough. And the least we can do is move forward on the bipartisan spaces where ordinary people agree. Clearly, there’s a disconnect between what the people, the American people want and what they are able to get out of the government. Again, 87% of Americans believe in background checks and yet I hear politicians say that it’s not guns who kill people, it’s people who kill people, and yet we don’t even want to know who those people are. We won’t even support common sense gun reform.

WELKER: But Senator- yes, or no, though. Should she support the mandatory buyback program? Just a yes or no.

WARNOCK: Listen- Look. As a pastor, I’ve done buyback programs. You can pick this issue or that issue but I think, again- there’s not one single thing that will make all of this go away.

No serious Regime Media coverage of a school shooting ever delves into the many failures that happen before a 14-year-old opens fire, as was the case at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Not the familial dynamics, not the allegations of bullying, or the trans-adjacent Discord chat frequented by the shooter.

Nor is there, in this case, any discussion of the law enforcement failures at play here. There is only the left’s disarmament fetish, both as a matter of principle and of policy.

That Warnock pretends to rebuff Welker, by admitting to have done a buyback at his church but advocating for multiple pieces of policy, is secondary to Welker’s insistence on confiscation via government “buyback”. And if the deaths of two children and two teachers have to be exploited a little in furtherance of a longstanding leftwing policy favorite, so be it. Disgusting and ghoulish.
