ABC, CBS Drool Over Obama DNC Speeches, Rekindled Hopenchange

As we indicated earlier, the unofficial theme of Night 2 of the 2024 Democratic National Convention was the transfer of the mantle of Hope and Change on to Kamala Harris, with the Obamas personally conducting the transfer. Night 2’s subtheme is the manner in which the Regime Media fell over themselves in pining for that Obama Restoration.

Consider ABC’s Mary Bruce, for example. Known for her sycophantic coverage of the Biden White House as ABC’s Chief White House Correspondent. Watch as Bruce absolutely fawns over the Obamas’ convention speeches:

MARY BRUCE: And that, perhaps, might be the most powerful message here from the Obamas, from what was a very remarkable one-two punch here tonight. I mean, that was some serious straight talk but, in addition to the blistering takedown of Donald Trump, I mean, I think you could argue that that is the most blistering takedown of Trump that we've heard from Democrats in recent memory. It was a powerful lifting up of Kamala Harris. Passing very clearly that mantle of “Hope and Change" now to her, but perhaps most important was the message they had to Americans. Do not get complacent. This is going to be a fight, Barack Obama said. They cannot take their eye off the ball, Americans have to get out and vote because they say the future of this very country is on the line.

DAVID MUIR: Yeah, the former First Lady saying “Don't wait for that call. That call from a campaign somewhere. Consider this my personal ask”, she said.

If you look closely enough, you can see Bruce struggling to maintain that fine line between “analysis” and opinion, almost forcing herself to drop some variant of “the Obamas said” in between her hot takes. This was Mary Bruce at her Mary Bruciest, and that’s saying a lot. ABC World News Tonight anchor David Muir reinforcing Michelle Obama’s call to action, in a manner reminiscent of his pre and post-framing of every political story wherein he delivers a brief before and after whatever the correspondent puts out.

As if that weren’t servile enough, here’s CBS’s John Dickerson with the weirdly sycophantic take on the Obama speeches:

JOHN DICKERSON: In 2012 I was in the Obama campaign headquarters. And they were feeling a little low, and staffers used to watch his old speeches on their computers as nourishment. These two speeches by the Obamas are going to serve that purpose. They will be watched and going to your point, Nancy, the movement that they tried to argue that people are going to be a part of is an American one. When they talked about Michelle Obama's mother and those values that are enduring. When Barack Obama talks about Little League and extending grace that we extend in the small spaces of our lives, that gets people wrapped into a campaign in ways that they recognize in their own lives make them feel good and that's when politics works the best. And then finally, I think this- these two speeches plus Doug Emhoff’s speech also are a shield against what Donald Trump is doing, which is to say Kamala Harris is the other. She is something you don't recognize. What he started by claiming that Barack Obama is born in Kenya. And that is what this is a shield is that we are part of an American story, and that’s to fight against what Donald Trump is doing…

NORAH O’DONNELL: And that’s an excellent point.

Dickerson senses that future Obama sycophants and hangers-on will be “nourished” by tonight’s speeches. Here we see, again, the transposition of Hope and Change on to the Harris campaign- enabled by the Regime Media. And more than anything, the media’s own projected desire for that Obama restoration by proxy.

All this and it’s only Day Two. If it weren’t for Regime Media, we’d have none at all.
