With just over two weeks until Election Day, leftist media pundits are running out of time to boost Joe Biden’s poll numbers. Realizing that the polls are not currently projecting a “landslide” victory for Biden, the frustrated co-hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe needed to let off some steam. Wallowing in pre-election anxiety Monday morning, they kicked off the show with a flurry of insults.
After directly comparing President Trump’s campaign rallies to the “Salem Witch Trials,” co-host Joe Scarborough started going after his least-favorite and supposedly right-wing platform, Facebook: “It’s so bad that the most viewed sites on Facebook are all right-wing—not conservative… are right-wing extremists who are pushing alternative facts. That’s what Facebook has become.” Then, as though none of his colleagues nor audience would ever hear him, he (shockingly) continued:
And this is one of the things, Democrats are so stupid, they really are. Democrats and liberals in the media are so, so stupid. Because somebody will say, ‘Oh, Facebook is -- Facebook is unfair to conservatives.’ ‘What do we do? What do -- we can't have them calling us bad’-- Yes, you can. Like that's what conservatives think, they can lie through their teeth.
Wow. The flat-out statement that Democrats and liberals in the media are “so, so stupid” is not something you hear every day on Morning Joe, and is far more surprising than his rant about the Republican columnists at The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post that immediately followed it. Even less surprising was his utter lack of reverence for Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri: “And then Republicans like Josh Hawley… I mean, seriously, I don't know him at all, so this isn’t personal, but he's either the stupidest person ever to walk the halls of Congress, or the most disingenuous.”
But Scarborough’s personal attacks were far from over. Turning his attention back to Facebook, he ranted:
I got problems with Mark Zuckerberg. I think [Section] 230 should be eliminated. I think it should be -- I think it, like we broke up the Baby Bells, I think Facebook should be broken into a thousand pieces after what they did in 2016, letting the Russians in. And Sheryl Sandberg learning that -- that the board was being told about this and getting angry that the truth was getting out -- they should be broken into a million pieces.
Yikes! Who knew anyone in the press corps had such a personal issue with Facebook? It’s a surprise considering that the company raises so much money for Democrats. To sum up his feelings, Scarborough wailed: “So Mika, they’re whipping up all of this nonsense, all of this garbage, anti-science, anti-First Amendment, anti-truth, and we still have a race that’s too close to call.” Ah, so that’s what it’s all about. Poor Scarborough just can’t get his mind off the election.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski, going off of Scarborough’s rant, expressed her disdain for The Wall Street Journal: “Some of their best writers! On television, saying, ‘Oh, the press is all focused on coronavirus,’ like coronavirus isn’t a big story. Look at the number on the screen. It’s- it’s a crazy time in terms of what people will do to try and deny facts.”
Disturbed by Trump’s “lock her up” chants over the weekend, MSNBC’s PoliticsNation host Rev. Al Sharpton summed up everyone’s tension on the show: “I think it is frightening that we're sitting here and not seeing a landslide guaranteed for Joe Biden given the behavior of this president even over this past weekend.”
The Biden campaign communications team working at MSNBC just wants to make sure their candidate wins by as much as possible.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: This is -- please. If you don't think people aren't going to look back at those rallies with the same horror that we now look back on the Salem witch trials, you don't think that's going to happen 50 years from now, 100 years from now? You're kidding yourself. In the middle of a pandemic, long after we are all gone, people will be showing these images and asking ‘what happened to America?’ or at least, a large subset of America, and what happened… was Donald Trump. And history, and Americans in the future are going to have to grapple with that, as are those right now who are working day in and day out to further his agenda or the tens of the millions of people who are actually going along with this.

SCARBOROUGH: You know, it’s so hilarious. I saw an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal yesterday, and the columnist, whose name doesn’t deserve to be repeated on this program, was talking about the liberal dominance…
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yeah.
SCARBOROUGH: …of Facebook. It’s so bad that the most viewed sites on Facebook are all right wing- not conservative… are right wing extremists who are pushing alternative facts. That’s what Facebook has become. It’s become a propaganda outfit.
(…)
SCARBOROUGH: When, again, day in and day out, the most viewed pages on Facebook, the most shared pages on Facebook, are from right-wing conspiracy theorists, anti-anti-Trumpers, who presented the disgusting, twisted view of the world. And then Republicans like Josh Hawley… I mean, seriously, I don't know him at all, so this isn’t personal, but he's either the stupidest person ever to walk the halls of Congress, or the most disingenuous. He [unintelligible], ‘we have a problem with-, we need to censor Facebook.’ What do you- oh do you… oh Jos-- you can- oh really, Josh? Oh, you're a conservative? And you have to censor a private -- I got problems with Mark Zuckerberg. I think two thirty should be eliminated. I think it should be- I think it, like we broke up the Baby Bells, I think Facebook should be broken into a thousand pieces after what they did in 2016, letting the Russians in. And Sheryl Sandberg learning that- that the board was being told about this and getting angry that the truth was getting out- they should be broken into a million pieces. But Josh you want to censor a company, that's a private- really? Didn't you go to Harvard Law School or something, like seriously? Did they teach you that you can ban private businesses now? No, I-I-I, where I went to we didn't learn that in law school. So Mika, they're whipping up all of this nonsense, all of this garbage, anti-science, anti-first amendment, anti-truth, and we still have a race that's too close to call.
BRZEZINSKI: No, and you know, you talk about names that are not worth mentioning on this show, there are a lot of names that are worth mentioning on this show, related to, for example, The Wall Street Journal. I know you used to have great respect for The Wall Street Journal and I would watch some –
SCARBOROUGH: The editorial page.
BRZEZINSKI: Some of their best writers! On television, saying, ‘oh, the press is all focused on “coronavirus”,’ like coronavirus isn’t a big story. Look at the number on the screen. It’s- it’s a crazy time in terms of what people will do to try and deny facts.
6:19:07
BRZEZINSKI: So Reverend Al, uh- with everything that Jonathan Lemire has just put out there on the table I also think that Donald Trump could be doing a lot worse, if you look at four years ago, and where Democrats were, where Hillary Clinton was. It- this doesn’t appear to be a landslide for Joe Biden, in fact it appears that he might have a long way to go or we could have a repeat of four years ago.
REV. AL SHARPTON: What is frightening is that not only is it not a landslide in terms of the polling for Joe Biden, given what Donald Trump has done, I mean, we are talking about a president that went in a state ten days after the FBI uncovered not people talking about kidnapping the governor and putting some kind of explosives at the state capitol, but actually were doing drills, going through procedures that they videotaped to do it. And the president mocks her and leads a crowd in a chant of lock her up, lock her up for protecting us against the coronavirus and this president is still within a range of winning the presidency, even though it's a tight path. There's still a path. I think it is frightening that we're sitting here and not seeing a landslide guaranteed for Joe Biden given the behavior of this president even over this past weekend.
