Joy Behar Actually Scolds Hillary Over ‘Strangle’ Fiorina Moment

November 11th, 2015 12:12 PM

On Wednesday's The View, liberal co-host Joy Behar surprisingly hit Hillary Clinton for failing to condemn one of her supporters who said he wanted to “strangle” Carly Fiorina.

Behar admitted that “if somebody had said that to Donald Trump and he had laughed, we would be ripping him a new one and she did not -- she should have stood up to him, I'm sorry, I have to say that.”

The segment began with ABC’s Paula Faris strongly condemning Hillary Clinton for laughing at calls for violence against a woman and pointed out how “we held Carly Fiorina to a certain standard and expected her to stop that voter in his or her tracks...I think every politician, especially, we're talking about violence against a woman. We're talking about strangling a woman here. You’re talking about strangling a woman."

Liberal comedian Michelle Collins tried desperately to downplay Clinton’s reaction and insisted that she was merely reacting to a joke:

The tone he said it in was a jokingish tone. Everyone in the room laughed here. Everyone in the room laughed there. The guy was obviously, I'm assuming, a guy who worked and lost his job. He wasn't the only one. 30,000 people lost their jobs under Carly Fiorina and there were a host of other issues when she was CEO. Listen, Homer has been strangling Bart --

After Behar criticized Hillary’s failure to call out her supporter, Faris continued to reprimand the Democrat because “we always talk about women standing up for other women. So she's got to stand up for the only other female that’s out there.”

Collins continued to be the lone voice on the panel to excuse Clinton’s actions and concluded the segment by strangely claiming that Hillary’s decision to laugh showed that “she was like one of the people. It was a lighthearted thing.”

ABC’s The View

November 11, 2015

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: [T]he question is, did Hillary Clinton make a mistake laughing?

PAULA FARIS: Yes. Because we held Carly Fiorina to a certain standard and expected her to stop that voter in his or her tracks. The same thing with Donald Trump when they were saying that President Obama was a Muslim. I think every politician, especially, we're talking about violence against a woman. We're talking about strangling a woman here. You’re talking about strangling a woman.

MICHELLE COLLINS: The tone he said it in was a jokingish tone.

RAVEN SYMONE: You know about humans, she did a human reaction right after it. She understood the room but at the same time it's how you come back after you laugh, like, you know what, that wasn't actually funny. We don't need to talk about violence. Whatever, whatever your presidential candidate is. We didn't again show what happened afterwards. Maybe she reprimanded them or maybe she didn't–

FARIS: She never did.

SYMONE: But it's also, it’s an adult reprimanding an adult.

JOY BEHAR: In all fairness, let's be fair, if somebody had said that to Donald Trump and he had laughed, we would be ripping him a new one and she did not -- she should have stood up to him, I'm sorry, I have to say that.

FARIS: And especially we always talk about women standing up for other women. So she's got to stand up for the only other female that’s out there.

COLLINS: Y'all know I love to laugh, it’s one of my favorite things to do and I think she showed that she was like one of the people. It was a lighthearted thing, I mean listen, I know where you're coming from but --

BEHAR: She was caught off guard.

COLLINS: Off guard. All right, no one's perfect.
