Elon Musk Invests in Skydance (CNN): Liberal Media Panic Ensues

October 24th, 2026 1:30 PM

Amazing.

Here’s but one sample headline to illustrate the liberal media’s current panic over, yes indeed, Elon Musk. The headline is from the UK’s Daily Mail:

Elon Musk leaves woke media elites shaking in their boots as he invests $1billion in CNN and Paramount's parent company

The story reports:

Elon Musk has reportedly poured $1 billion into the media empire behind CNN and Paramount, potentially giving the billionaire a powerful new foothold in Hollywood and sending shockwaves through an industry packed with his fiercest critics.

….While there is no evidence Musk intends to interfere with their programming, his arrival as an investor raises questions about the future direction of some of America's most prominent news and entertainment brands.

There is no confirmation that CNN staffers have put out a request for smelling salts.

Which is another way of saying that the American media is undergoing change. Big time.

For seemingly forever, the American Left has had an iron grip on control of the bulk of the American media. Recall that this control was once so solid that there were gasps of  angry disbelief when the conservative Rupert Murdoch arrived on the American media scene. Murdoch, fresh from his native Australia where he had begun building his media empire by turning his father’s ownership of an Australian newspaper into a global empire, slowly expanded into the American media.

He bought The New York Post in 1976. In 1986, he bought the TV stations that would make the Fox broadcast network. In 1996, he created the Fox News Channel, which over time, became a mega-presence in both America and the rest of the globe.

In short, the Left’s control over the American media was broken, never to return. It was a significant, big-time change.

This time around the Big Change in the American media is coming courtesy of Elon Musk. And Musk’s presence with his investment in Skydance, which just acquired CNN, has liberals freaking out.

It’s worth recalling that CNN was, in its original form, the creation of Atlanta businessman Ted Turner. When he began CNN, by stitching together a couple TV stations, people laughed. But Turner was one smart guy, and built what was in the day the very first 24-hour cable news network Note: CNN took its name from being a Cable News Network.

Notably, Turner was a young conservative, in his father's footsteps. But by 1988, his TBS network aired a preposterous seven-hour documentary called Portrait of the Soviet Union, which became the first big crusade for Brent Bozell's new group called the Media Research Center. It was so bad that even Washington Post television critic Tom Shales characterized the series as "a postcard from Binky and Biff at Camp Whitewash."

As a CNN alum myself, I was always heard from the conservative corner. But safe to say, as I discovered, my presence or the presence of any conservative commentator on CNN caused a ripple in the liberal media waters. But the change that introduced CNN in the first place would go on to keep changing.

And now? Now the media - and specifically CNN - could be facing major change again. A conservative leaning trillionaire mogul, Elon Musk, has the resources to buy all of CNN - and more. And so, because he can do it, per the headlines and reports out there, that is exactly what Elon Musk is about. With the ripples from that purchase terrifying the liberal media community, just as they hated his purchase of Twitter.

All of which is to say, this story about a Musk-driven change in the media is clearly going to be an ongoing media news story. With much more to come. And predictably, the arrival of Musk has caused a serious stir in the waters of the American media

Get the popcorn! Big change is coming to the larger world of the American media. Change that could be led and driven by Elon Musk.

Stay tuned. This, all too predictably, has caused a serious stir in the waters of the American media
