What's in the Jan. 6 Trump indictment
The former president has been charged with four counts, including conspiracy.
The story begins by reporting this:
Former President Donald Trump has been indicted in the special counsel's investigation into his alleged plot to overthrow the 2020 election.
Trump has been charged with four counts: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights.
….The former president has repeatedly criticized Jack Smith, the special counsel for the Dept. of Justice, who is investigating Trump for several cases.
Got that? Then-former President Trump had the nerve - the nerve! - to “repeatedly criticize” (per ABC) the Biden Justice Department and its DOJ “special counsel”. For which he was “charged with four counts.”
Now here is this headline from The Washington Post this very week:
DOJ’s targeting of Trump critics ramps up with attempt to indict lawmakers
The case is the first time the Justice Department has attempted to classify critical speech from prominent Trump detractors as a crime.
The bottom line?
The Biden administration weaponized the US Department of Justice to target Trump with a four-count indictment.
Yet now, there is (but of course) The Washington Post trying to give the impression that it is Trump’s Justice Department that has been weaponized for the very first time to target “Trump critics.” It also makes a point of citing Trump critic and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, a Democrat, as saying:
'This is not a good news story,' Kelly, a retired Navy captain and astronaut, told reporters during a news conference this week. 'This is a story about how Donald Trump and his cronies are trying to break our system to silence anyone who lawfully speaks out against them.'
There was not a peep from Kelly on the Biden Justice Department being weaponized to indict Trump himself for speaking out against the alleged funny business with the results of the 2020 election.
All of which is to say its just another day in the life of liberal media double standards in which, in this case, Trump is targeted by ABC. In addition to which The Post protects Senator Kelly, who has made it a point to ignore the Biden weaponization of the DOJ to target then-former President Trump.
As the saying goes, when it comes to the media ignoring the factual history of the Biden DOJ targeting Trump himself, but gets the vapors at the Trump DOJ supposedly targeting “Trump detractors”?
Ya can’t make it up.
Unless, of course, the media (and Senator Kelly) does just that.
