The Liberal Media and the Criminalization of American Politics

August 6th, 2022 4:16 PM

The headline in The Atlantic read this way: “The DOJ Must Prosecute Trump.”

The authors, Establishment lawyers one and all, want Trump criminally prosecuted because of the “evidence” presented by the nakedly partisan, Democrat-run January 6 Committee.

This is the popular theme in today’s media, a guessing game of will-he-or-will-he-not be prosecuted.

But there is infinitely more going on here than just the January 6 Trump story.

CNN pushes another Trump story headlined: “New York AG's investigation against Trump can continue, federal judge rules.”

The idea here is that Trump’s private business should be investigated for alleged violations of New York law.

But forget Trump.

In November the Biden Justice Department announced it was indicting conservative media’s Steve Bannon, a former Trump aide, for contempt of Congress. NBC bannered the news this way

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon indicted by federal grand jury for contempt of Congress

Of course one gets indicted if one has been held in Contempt of Congress —  right? The media is all for that.

Wrong.

Here’s this headline in The Guardian from back there in the stone age of the Obama administration, June 2012.

Eric Holder held in contempt of Congress after historic vote
Attorney general first sitting cabinet member to be held in contempt as 17 Democrats join Republicans to pass resolution

In fact, Eric Holder, like Steve Bannon, was held in contempt of Congress. Unlike Steve Bannon he was not indicted by the Department of Justice because, well, Eric Holder was the sitting Attorney General - he ran the DOJ.

Was there an outcry in the media about that? Of course not - because Holder was one of the media’s favorite guys - a Democrat. And an Obama Democrat at that.

I could go on and on and on. But just with these examples it is crystal clear that the American Left, aided and abetted by their friends in the media, are intent on criminalizing American politics —  if you are a conservative or Republican.

If you are one of those, woe betide your treatment in the media. They will run so many stories out there saying you should be prosecuted for X that even your grandmother would come to believe you are guilty of at least something.

But as that infamous incident with Twitter and the liberal media burying the October 2020 New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s laptop vividly illustrated, in the drive to criminalize American politics one side only is to be prosecuted, the other side protected. And the liberals in the media know which is which.

This actual punishment of physical jail time has long since expanded to social media. One conservative after another has faced social media jail for the most mundane of conservative postings, while the American Left — not to mention America’s enemies - are allowed to say and post more or less anything they want.

But it all comes down to the same thing. The media, acting as an ally for the Left, is busy buying into the notion that American politics should be criminalized — but only if you are a conservative.

To say this is dangerous is to say the obvious.

But will it stop?

Of course not.

As The Atlantic and its drive to prosecute Trump clearly shows.
