These journalists REALLY need to get out of their New York-DC bubbles.
In just the past couple of weeks they’ve asserted that Joe Biden is getting “worse” press coverage than Donald Trump, that Biden’s low approval ratings are somehow Trump’s fault and a GOP takeover of Congress would “imperil democracy.” Disgraced and now retired MSNBC anchor Brian Williams even claimed he wasn't a “liberal.”
Where do they get this stuff? Talk about an echo-chamber!
The following are the most zany media observations and outbursts from the month of December:
Laugh Out Loud Funny: Biden Getting Worse Press Than Trump
“The findings, painstakingly assembled by FiscalNote vice president Bill Frischling, confirmed my fear: My colleagues in the media are serving as accessories to the murder of democracy. After a honeymoon of slightly positive coverage in the first three months of the year, Biden’s press for the past four months has been as bad as — and for a time worse than — the coverage Trump received for the same four months of 2020.”
— Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank in December 3 article “Opinion: The media treats Biden as badly as — or worse than — Trump. Here’s proof.”
Lying Brian Leaves with One Final Lie: “I’m Not a Liberal”
“After 28 years of peacock logos on much of what I own, it is my choice now to jump without a net into the great unknown. As I do for the first time in my 62 years, my biggest worry is for my country. I’m not a liberal or a conservative. I’m an institutionalist. I believe in this place and, in my love of my country, I yield to no one. But the darkness on the edge of town has spread to the main roads and highways and neighborhoods, the local bar, the bowling alley, the school board and the grocery store. And it must be acknowledged and answered for. Grown men and women who swore an oath to our Constitution, elected by our constituents, possessing the kinds of college degrees I can only dream of, have decided to join the mob….They’ve decided to burn it all down with us inside. That should scare you to no end as much as it scares an aging volunteer fireman.”
— Anchor Brian Williams’s parting words on his final show as aired on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour, December 9.
Biden’s Low Approval Ratings? Trump’s Fault!
“It seems as if there’s nothing the White House can do to improve their political standing, these days. It does feel like every week there’s another poll, a new bottom….and some of it is out of their control....His two big promises were to get COVID behind us and to get rid of Donald Trump. COVID’s not behind us and Donald Trump’s still lurking. It’s not his fault.”
— Host Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet the Press, December 12.
Fearing Democratic Disunity Will Lead to GOP Wins and End of Democracy
“Democrats have never possessed Republicans’ talent for unity. But the intensity of the anger and angst are striking, especially given the stakes. A Republican takeover of Congress in 2022 and of the presidency two years later would endanger more than the social safety net. It would imperil democracy itself.”
— Former New York Times White House correspondent Frank Bruni in December 9 opinion piece “Democrats’ Dangerous Appetite for Eating Their Own.”
Feeling Hillary’s Pain
“So how did you read and then deal with the criticism that you’ve received, which includes people calling for you to be locked up?....I think the moment that is going to stick out to most people in this MasterClass is an extraordinary one where you read what you call the would-be victory speech….What compelled you to sit down and revisit that speech?...So how painful was it for you and has it been to watch the country since that [2016 election] day?...Do you ever have moments of responsibility or even guilt about what’s happened?”
— Host Willie Geist to Hillary Clinton on NBC’s Sunday Today, December 12.
Having “Separation Anxiety” Over “Losing” Unethical Journalists
“Chris Cuomo as a performer, as a talent in the 9:00 p.m. time slot, did a terrific job. I mean, he did a terrific job. He had almost a million viewers a night. He was competitive in the toughest primetime time slot there is….I have separation anxiety about Brian Williams leaving at 11:00 because it means so much. We’re losing big stars in this medium and I don’t know what the impact is.”
— Baltimore Sun media reporter David Zurawik on CNN’s Reliable Sources, December 5.
Republicans “Don’t Care About Keeping People Alive”
“It strikes me that Republicans are willing to go to the wall for some things. Their right to have as many guns as you want, and you can shoot up wherever you want….I have started calling them [Republicans] just the ‘Get’em born and then it’s your problem’ party because, right, they’re very much interested in birth, but they don’t seem to be interested in life, meaning educating children, providing health care for our citizens, preventing people from dying from gun violence….They don’t care about keeping people alive.”
— Host Joy Reid on MSNBC on MSNBC’s The ReidOut, December 1.
What About the “Stench?” Let’s Not Forget About the “Stench,” Let Me Remind You About the “Stench!”
“Justice [Sonia] Sotomayor asking whether the Court would survive the stench of being considered a political institution. Surviving the stench, in the words of Justice Sotomayor, possibly the only remaining question about the Mississippi case is where we start today....To come back to Justice Sotomayor’s point, what do they do about the stench?...What Justice Sotomayor said today about the stench....What is the remedy for the stench?”
— Host Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, December 1.
Berating Dems From Left: Lack “Guts” to “Pack” Supreme Court
“Who thinks that a party [Democrats]that was clowned into putting [Brett] Kavanaugh and [Amy Coney] Barrett on the Court, that still acts as if [Mitch] McConnell is in charge of the filibuster, is going to gather the votes, the guts, and the ability to somehow pack or alter in any way the Supreme Court?”
— Host Brian Williams on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour, December 4.
Pro-Lifers Are Hypocrites If They Don’t Support Gun Control
“It seems to me that if you’re pro-life then you would be pro-life across the board in terms of protecting the sanctity of life. Right? So Pro-lifers should be supportive of [Democratic Governor] Gavin Newsom’s law….You would be against the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction, you would be against the manufacture of instrumentalities of death like guns.”
— Host Sunny Hostin on ABC’s The View, December 13.
