When CBS made waves Thursday as the only broadcast network to not only carry (most of) President Trump’s address on election integrity, it was only a matter of time Status founder and deranged partisan Oliver Darcy would take to his newsletter site and cry about it. So, that missive came down on Monday as he whined it went against what they had told Democrats hours earlier and further “inject[ed] politics into the way people evaluate the network[.]”
Darcy was dripping with hate, right from the subhead: “The Bari Weiss-led network privately indicated it would snub Donald Trump’s primetime address last week, Status has learned, only to reverse course at the last minute and air the speech.”
Darcy began by pointing out Tony Dokoupil ended Thursday’s CBS Evening News by encouraging those wanting to hear the speech to check out their streaming platform, CBS News 24/7. Ostensibly, that would mean CBS itself wouldn’t be carrying it.
“It would be highly unusual for a broadcast network not to roll out its coverage plans two hours before a presidential address, especially one that had been announced three days earlier,” Darcy added.
But alas, CBS “announced it would air the address during a primetime special anchored by Dokoupil” an hour before its airing. Here was where the childish laments began in earnest as he huffed CBS had promised “Democratic aides” they wouldn’t show it.
Pair that with his point that CNN’s Brian Stelter had said Dokoupil could anchor a special report with select clips following the speech, and it sure seems like CBS disobeyed their supposed handlers!
Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss must still have a serious problem with leaks, as “staffers at CBS News” went griping to Darcy that they “were also under the impression that the network planned to air the special only on its streaming service,” only for “something...to change at the last minute.”
Darcy timed it out so he could whine they “air[ed] 17 minutes of Trump peddling debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.”
Of note, the left treated Trump’s speech as akin to animal torture or an expletive-laden speech worthy of FCC violations, and thus the American people are too stupid to decipher fact from fiction.
The least surprising part came next when Darcy said, citing more leaks, that “the larger sentiment at the network was against carrying the remarks.”
Darcy suggested a conspiracy was afoot:
[I]t doesn’t require much imagination—and it has stirred interest inside and outside the building. The White House had requested that all the networks air the address, but Trump has a special relationship with CBS News owner David Ellison. Suffice to say, had CBS News snubbed the White House, that relationship could have been put at significant risk.
Even if the White House did not make a special ask of CBS News, it’s difficult to ignore the underlying dynamic. During his address, Trump, bashed ABC and NBC for not carrying the remarks, even threatening their broadcast licenses[.]
A former conservative journalist who now wants to censor and destroy the hand that fed him, he only dedicated a single sentence to what Dokoupil and his CBS colleagues actually said in covering the speech: “While CBS News did ultimately air Trump’s address, it should be noted that Dokoupil and others thoroughly fact-checked it afterward.”
Another sin CBS allegedly committed was saying yes to “off-the-record White House briefing on the address” and they dared to listen to one man who was likely steering the call: “John Solomon—the right-wing media personality with a history of pushing conspiracy theories who is now a government employee reviewing election material classification[.]”
Darcy concluded by screeching CBS carrying the speech was “a symptom of a problem [David] Ellison has created” as a supposed MAGA mogul and thus forced his network to engage in another act of “kowtowing to the White House” and “inject[ing] politics into the way people evaluate the network and its editorial decisions.”
In turn, Darcy fretted the Ellison and Weiss takeover of CBS has “severely injur[ed] [its] reputation.”
Cry me a river, you sniveling authoritarian.
