NBC’s Saturday Night Live got in on the late night comedy shows’ efforts to drag Democrats across the finish line in November by having Marcello Hernandez drag out his bad impression of Secretary of State Marco Rubio to campaign against Republicans in Spanish.
Ashley Padilla and Andrew Dismukes played generic RNC staffers who were trying to figure out how to boost the party’s polling, with Padilla explaining, "The midterm polling is looking bleak, and hopefully these ad spots will get the base excited.”
Dismukes then introduced Fake Rubio, “Well, hey, if these Republican heavy hitters can't do it, no one can. Why don't we start off with the Secretary of State? We're ready for you, Mr. Rubio.”
SNL's Marcello Hernandez pulls out his... err... subpar Marco Rubio impression and compains against Republicans, saying in Spanish, "Oh my God! He tricked us! And he tricked me too! He said, 'Do Venezuela. Easy. Two days. Boom, boom.' And then he says, 'Forget Venezuela, now… pic.twitter.com/munNxELZdl

Before beginning, Hernandez insisted, “Oh, please, call me Little Marco.”
Padilla agreed while emphasizing Republicans need to do better with Latino voters, “Of course, of course. We really need your help with the Latino voters, so whenever you're ready, sir. Okay? And action!”
Hernandez began, “Hello and hola. The midterm elections are almost upon us. I have a message for my fellow Spanish speakers about President Trump.”
Switching over to Spanish with English subtitles, Hernandez began his anti-Trump campaign speech, “Oh my God! He tricked us! And he tricked me too! He said, ‘Do Venezuela. Easy. Two days. Boom, boom.’ And then he says, ‘Forget Venezuela, now Iran.’ Which is it? Venezuela, Iran, Venezuela, Iran, Canada?”
Hernandez then had Fake Rubio make fun of Trump’s diet, “And every day, the same lunch: hamburger, hamburger, hamburger, hamburger. Chicken nugget, chicken nugget, chicken nugget, chicken nugget. One day I tell him, ‘Mr. Trump, a salad?’ Boom! He hits me in the face.”
Reverting back to English, Hernandez concluded, “Thank you and gracias.”
Because SNL feels the need to portray Republicans as stupid and racist, it had Padilla thank Fake Rubio, “Oh my gosh. Oh, wow. I mean, I don’t know what you said, but that sounded great.”
The whole point of an impression is poke fun at their various idiosyncrasies or absurdities, but not only does Hernandez not sound like Rubio at all, but the idea that the incumbent Republican Secretary of State would campaign for Democrats is not parody or satire. It is just liberal campaigning and wish casting.
