Before Hunter Biden’s plea deal fell apart on Wednesday, MSNBC’s Ana Cabrera and political chameleon Kurt Bardella offered up what their big takeaway from all of the drama surrounding him: Republicans are hypocrites.
Cabrera thought it was interesting that former assistant FBI director for counterintelligence “Frank Figliuzzi brought up that under the Trump Administration Republican lawmakers were not interested in investigating then-President Trump's family business dealings or Jared Kushner's dealings and possible conflicts of interest.”
If Figliuzzi said so, then according to Cabrera, it must be true, “given the recent development and what we're seeing playing out there on The Hill, of all being Hunter Biden and this investigation, what do you make of this apparent hypocrisy?”
Why Republicans are hypocrites, but Democrats aren’t is something neither Cabrera nor Bardella would ever attempt to explain. Bardella would, however, claim “it's pretty glaring and, again, it just underscores and illustrates how this is purely political and not actually evidentiary or fact-based in any way.”
Bardella would also try to portray Hunter Biden as just a regular guy:
Hunter Biden’s a private citizen, Hunter Biden never worked in the West Wing. He's not part of the inner workings of the White House at any time in the same way that Jared Kushner or Ivanka Trump were and when you look at even just the financial resources that the Trump family has been the beneficiary of from questionable sources and questions about how they arranged those financial dealings, it completely dwarves anything compared to Hunter Biden.
At least Kushner actually managed to accomplish something in the White House, which is more than one can say about Hunter’s business credentials. Nevertheless, Bardella doubled down, “So, the fact that they're willing to look the other way while Donald Trump's family has done that which they are accusing Hunter Biden of doing, you know, just tells everyone that there's really no substance there, that it's just political theater.”
Bardella would also not only claim the Hunter investigations are analogous to the Benghazi hearings and are nothing more than an attempt to hurt Joe Biden in 2024, but an attempt by Republicans to cover up their pro-life beliefs, “I think it also kind of illustrates the fact that their policies, their extreme agenda, their crusade for taking away women's rights, it's so unpopular that they want to spend every minute of every day talking about anything but the things they're actually doing, the policies they're actually enacting, the policies they're trying to force on the American people.”
As is common with the media, if Republicans have a scandal, the story is about Republicans. If a Democrat has a scandal, the story is the Republican reaction.

ANA CABRERA: But Kurt, I am thinking about what Frank Figliuzzi brought up that under the Trump Administration Republican lawmakers were not interested in investigating then-President Trump's family business dealings or Jared Kushner's dealings and possible conflicts of interest.
So, given the recent development and what we're seeing playing out there on The Hill, of all being Hunter Biden and this investigation, what do you make of this apparent hypocrisy?
KURT BARDELLA: Yeah, it's pretty glaring and, again, it just underscores and illustrates how this is purely political and not actually evidentiary or fact-based in any way.
So, the fact that they're willing to look the other way while Donald Trump's family has done that which they are accusing Hunter Biden of doing, you know, just tells everyone that there's really no substance there, that it's just political theater, that it's a 2024 mechanism, just as Kevin McCarthy once said that the Benghazi investigation was designed to take down Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, this is the same thing they're trying to do with Hunter Biden in trying to take down Joe Biden.
So, it's just kind of wash, rinse, repeat, the Republican playbook. And I think it also kind of illustrates the fact that their policies, their extreme agenda, their crusade for taking away women's rights, it's so unpopular that they want to spend every minute of every day talking about anything but the things they're actually doing, the policies they're actually enacting, the policies they're trying to force on the American people.
They know it's so unpopular because they don't have the giant 60-seat majority they promised us they would have in the midterm elections. So, now they're trying to do this misdirection and use the theater of Congressional hearings to distract away from the other stuff that's wildly unpopular.
