This afternoon the Society of Professional Journalists issued a press release noting their support of the Associated Press's lawsuit against the State Department over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's e-mail.
"It is hypocritical for Clinton to speak, as she did as secretary of state, about the importance of government transparency, criticizing other governments for not embracing high standards of openness and transparency with their citizens, while keeping her own emails private while she served as secretary of state," the SPJ noted, going on to cite Mrs. Clinton herself when she was secretary (emphasis mine):
In a speech in 2011, Clinton said, “When a government hides its work from public view, hands out jobs and money to political cronies, administers unequal justice, looks away as corrupt bureaucrats and businessmen enrich themselves at the people’s expense, that government is failing its citizens. And most importantly, that government is failing to earn and hold the trust of its people. And that lack of trust, in a world of instantaneous communication, means that the very fabric of society begins to fray and the foundation of governmental legitimacy begins to crumble.”
We couldn't agree more.
