Perhaps no one in the media world has had a longer and more acute case of “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) than 30-year veteran Univision senior news anchor Jorge Ramos.
By his own admission, Trump has been top-of-mind for Ramos for more than two years, as both a topic in his weekly opinion columns as well as from the anchor desk. In Ramos’ case, a tell-tale sign of the severity of his TDS is his ongoing, broken record-like and misleading characterization of what Trump said when he launched his campaign for the presidency in June of 2015.
“Trump presented all Latin American immigrants as delinquents” Ramos literally says of Trump’s presidential campaign announcement speech in his latest Spanish-language column for Miami’s El Nuevo Herald. Part and parcel of Ramos’ ongoing dishonesty and deviousness on this subject is that he also tends to speak significantly more harshly about Trump to his Spanish-language audiences than he does to his English-language audiences.
In the English-language version of the same column, for example, the above is ratcheted-down considerably to “Trump likened undocumented Latin immigrants to criminals.”
In both versions of the column, Ramos deliberately omits key sections of Trump’s speech. Specifically, Trump’s reference to U.S. Border Patrol agents as his source of the bad news about the disturbing criminal element among the unauthorized immigrant population crossing the border, as well as Trump’s reference to this same criminal element “probably” also coming from the Middle East.
Another example: in the Spanish-language version of the column, titled “Two Years of Trump”, Ramos says “Many thought U.S. voters would never choose a presidential candidate with racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment ideas.” But in English, that same sentence is changed to “Two years ago, many Americans thought it implausible that a candidate with racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environmental ideas would ever be elected President.”
In any event, one constant, in both Spanish and English, is Ramos’ broad-brushed defamation and demonization of Trump’s ideas as “racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment.”
Ramos’ words continue to give him away as suffering from a particularly acute form of TDS. For more than two years, this condition has wreaked horrible havoc on his ability to function as a journalist, and has severely damaged his professional credibility, including the credibility of the network of which he is the most prominent face.

Two Years of Trump

Many thought U.S. voters would never choose a presidential candidate with racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment ideas. But with Donald Trump we have all been wrong. Many times.
It all began two years ago. When on June 16, 2015 he launched his presidential campaign in his golden tower in New York, he said the following about Latin American immigrants: “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people...It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America.”
Those are racist comments. Trump presented all Latin American immigrants as delinquents…”
