Sandwiched between their morning news reports about the leak from the Supreme Court pointing to the possible end of Roe vs. Wade, Univision inserted a 30-second advertorial for Planned Parenthood in California, where “more and more women are coming in search of services (abortions) they don't have where they live.”
This is how the pro-choice promotion was covered by the team at Univision's Despierta America on the morning of May 3:
ALAN TACHER: This morning, California braces for the impact of severe anti-abortion laws in other states. There are increasingly more women arriving (to CA) in search of services that they do not have in the place where they live. That's why state leaders are asking for $3 million dollars for the Planned Parenthood organization, with the goal of providing additional abortions and primary care. The Golden State already welcomes up to 500 patients a week, and that number may increase in the months to come.
After admitting the successful implementation of right to life laws in “other states,” host Alan Tacher appealed to the “increasingly more women” going to California “in search of services that they don't have in the place where they live.” Next came the lobbying for the number one baby-killer in the nation: “That is why state leaders are asking for $3 million dollars for the Planned Parenthood organization” to increase the number of abortions performed in the Golden State.
It is hard to watch this sneaky bit of 'reporting' from Univision, and not see it for what is: a fundraiser promotion aimed at the “up to 500 patients a week, and that number may increase” in the words of Tacher.
