Viewers of Telemundo’s morning talk show Un Nuevo Día, woke up to a report that, instead of actually reporting the content of President Trump's State of the Union Address, focused on the very nasty words of first-term congresswoman Veronica Escobar, from Texas, who was assigned to deliver the Democrat rebuttal in Spanish.
Watch as Washington D.C. correspondent Javier Vega cuts to the portion of Escobar’s rebuttal where she addresses the shooting at El Paso and calls for gun control, in response to the President´s words about illegal immigration and the positive results obtained from new measures taken by his Administration:
JAVIER VEGA: And the person who offered a response to the president's speech on behalf of Hispanic Democrat Members of Congress, was Congresswoman Veronica Escobar. She did so from El Paso, Texas, where her district is located, and this is how she answered, this was her response to President Trump.
VERONICA ESCOBAR: A domestic terrorist confessed to having traveled more than ten hours to attack Mexican immigrants. Just before he started his wave of murders, he posted his opinions on the internet. And he used the same hateful words used by President Trump to describe immigrants and Latinos. Mr. President... Lives are in danger.
VEGA: Today the impeachment resumes at 4 p.m. in the Senate, where President Donald Trump is expected to be found not guilty of articles of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
In her response, Escobar, one of the “Three Comadres of Impeachment”, insinuated that the El Paso shooter's actions were somehow Trump's fault. Drawing from the typical Latino telenovela, Escobar appealed to the public´s empathy as she added the words – “Mr. President…Lives are in danger.” The only danger is the one caused by human trafficking and false promises made to immigrants in the name of political interests.
Of note: During Telemundo´s Un Nuevo Día coverage of the State of The Union address, the word impeachment was repeated three times when referring to the President - this ongoing impeachment… impeachment against him… the impeachment resumes. Furthermore, Vega subtly inserted an obvious lie, stating that “The state of our union is stronger than ever before, he said triumphantly in a Democratic-majority congress”.

NICOLE GARCÍA: Well, President Trump's third state-of-the-nation address displayed the deep divide between Republicans and Democrats. We now return to Washington DC, where Javier Vega is located, with more details. Javier, the tension was felt in the environment, wasn't it? Tell us.
JAVIER VEGA: Hi Nicole, good morning. Well, yes, tension and division not only because of the partisan differences over the election year or because of this ongoing impeachment. It was a night where, while some were applauding, others were denouncing, and where the antagonism between the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President was reaffirmed. Here is a chronicle of what happened yesterday at the Capitol.
VEGA: It was his last address Congress before putting his re-election on the line. He began by snubbing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, whom he left with her hand outstretched, halfway to a handshake. Empowered by the Republican cries of “Four more years”, President Trump established the tone of his message.

The applause for the President came only from the legislators of his party.
