Univision Parrots Schumer’s Gaslighting Denial of Threats To SCOTUS

March 5th, 2020 4:42 PM

Univision’s coverage of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s dangerous tirade against TWO sitting Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States showcases simultaneous biases by omission and by commission- and abortion is the point of intersection.

First, watch Despierta América host Karla Martínez introduce the story and maliciously frame the case before the Supreme Court -- then watch Washington correspondent Edwin Pittí regurgitate the Schumer talking points:

KARLA MARTÍNEZ: And listen up: expectations rise this morning regarding the future of a law that would limit reproductive rights in Louisiana- while in in the heat a tense exchange between the head of the Supreme Court John Roberts, and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The Democratic senator accused the Justice of bias after (Roberts) said his statement was “reckless” and “dangerous” in reference to a potential ruling against abortion.

(....)

EDWIN PITTI: but we know that it was Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer who lashed out against two federal judges appointed by President Donald Trump. He says to be very careful because they’ve released the whirlwind and will pay a price. This led the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to tell him that his remarks are inappropriate and dangerous, but Schumer’s office says that they were talking about a political price.

There are two ways that Univision gaslit its own viewers. First, by misrepresenting the case before the Court, which seeks to clarify whether a 2014 Louisiana statute requiring abortion practitioners to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic.

At Univision though, everything is a potential repeal of Roe v. Wade par for the course for a network that has long carried Planned Parenthood’s water, and rewarded the liberal activist that performatively confronted Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake (AT THE KAVANAUGH CONFIRMATION) by making her a frequent contributor to the network.

Second: the parroting of Schumer’s talking points without allowing viewers to see or hear Schumer say what he said for themselves. I mean, it wasn’t that hard. Univision’s reporter even mirrored the language we used when subtitling Schumer’s rant and daring the networks to cover it:

What you didn't see on Univision, Telemundo, or CNN En Español: Chuck Schumer's direct threat against TWO Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the UNited States:

This is the latest instance in keeping with Univision’s long tradition of not covering (or under-covering) the things that liberals do but covering the controversies that ensue, and then not addressing the underlying things that caused the controversies in the first place. Recall how Jorge Ramos recently addressed Bernie Sanders’ professed admiration for the Castro regime’s “Literacy Brigades”, for example, without ever delving into what Sanders actually said. Same thing here, except we’re talking about a Senate Minority Leader’s direct threat against two sitting Supreme Court Justices.

It should be noted that Univision was the only network to cover Schumer’s threat as of time of publication. Telemundo and CNN En Español bit their respective tongues.

The market continues to cry out for an alternative.

Edwin Pitti is live with the latest from Washington, D.C. Edwin.

EDWIN PITTI: That’s right, good morning, Karla. Tensions rose when the Supreme court heard this challenge to this Louisiana law, but we know that it was Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer who lashed out against two federal judges appointed by President Donald Trump. He says to be very careful because they’ve released the whirlwind and will pay a price. This led the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to tell him that his remarks are inappropriate and dangerous, but Schumer’s office says that they were talking about a political price. We know that there will be much controversy, this decision has not yet been made- the arguments were only heard yesterday but a final ruling will be made in the month of June. This is the information we have live from Washington, Back to you, Karla, at the studio.

MARTÍNEZ: Many thanks, Edwin, for your live report from the nation’s capital. We’ll closely follow this controversy, no?
