MRC Free Speech America successfully confronted YouTube after the platform targeted a bombshell video by Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro, exposing entities aiming to manipulate Americans.
Shapiro praised MRC Free Speech America on Tuesday for successfully challenging YouTube’s demonetization of his video, which led to the platform reversing its arbitrary punishment. Researchers at the Media Research Center confronted the platform over dubious claims that the video, which blasts leftist internet traffic cop NewsGuard, violated YouTube’s policies on conspiracy theories.
“Media Research Center pressed YouTube about why monetization was suppressed,” Shapiro said. “Apparently, YouTube effectively refused to acknowledge the platform had limited the video in the first place. A YouTube spokesperson said. ‘In order for a video to monetize on YouTube, it must comply with our advertiser-friendly guidelines, which are publicly accessible and apply to all creators. Upon review the video in question is currently monetizing.’”
Shapiro mocked YouTube’s baffling 180-degree turnaround. “So, they reversed themselves, which it’s funny, because they didn’t tell that to us,” Shapiro added. “Again they claimed that we discussed the new world order which is a non-monetizable conspiracy theory but there's nothing that is conspiratorial about the actual episode which simply names the various subjective guidelines put in place by these advertising collusive regimes.”
The video in question — part of Shapiro’s new series called “Facts” released on July 29 — shed light on disturbing news rating entities. These entities seek to curtail advertising revenue for right-leaning platforms while bolstering leftist outlets with highly favorable ratings. Notably, Shapiro singled out NewsGuard, a government-funded news rating system, which MRC Free Speech America exposed for its glaring left-wing bias.
In the video, Shapiro also delved into the infamous Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a group founded by World Federation of Advertisers members. These entities collectively target advertisers on news outlets that do not adhere to leftist talking points on a myriad of issues. “NewsGuard is a trusted partner in GARM. They help ensure that ad buyers and users looking for news can be ‘safe, suitable places,’” Shapiro said in the video.
