OUTRAGEOUS: Twitter Labeled 300K Tweets This Election Cycle

It’s no secret that Twitter takes its self-proclaimed role as the arbiter of truth seriously, but a recent report released by the company shows just how far it’s willing to go to censor its opponents.

Twitter proudly announced in a Thursday update: “Approximately 300,000 Tweets have been labeled under our Civic Integrity Policy for content that was disputed and potentially misleading. These represent 0.2% of all US election-related Tweets sent during this time period.”

Twitter censorship is now no longer something that the platform denies or conceals: it now publicly lists the number of people it has censored with impunity.

The company has flagged or hidden multiple posts from President Donald Trump and Senior Advisor to the Trump campaign Jason Miller.  However, Fox News pointed out that a few on the left were censored as well, including former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and former White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci.

Of the 300,000 tweets, “456 of those Tweets were also covered by a warning message and had engagement features limited.”

The platform actually admitted it had effectively discouraged people from sharing content. It added that, by encouraging quote tweets, it “observed a 23% decrease in Retweets and a 26% increase in Quote Tweets, but on a net basis the overall number of Retweets and Quote Tweets combined decreased by 20%.”

So, Twitter was willing to sacrifice engagement, and its users’ right to free speech, in order to shut down what it deemed to be “misleading information.” A recent report that Trump has been censored 111 times on Twitter, and a separate NewsBusters report found that Facebook and Twitter had censored Trump 65 times, while Biden had not been censored at all.

Even before the election, Twitter locked the New York Post’s account for seventeen days after the Post published an article that claimed to expose alleged corrupt dealings of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden in Ukraine. The platform initially blocked the link completely, but later reversed course.
