Stranger Things star and Hollywood It Girl Millie Bobby Brown recently deleted her Twitter account after being made the subject of satirical homophobic memes.
The 14-year-old actress had been targeted by internet trolls, who were posting pictures and other depictions of the actress on social media showing her to be homophobic and anti-LGBT. The trending hashtag for the mock posts has been #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown.
One such tweet was a Twitter user’s fictional encounter with Brown at a fast food restaurant. “I was in McDonald’s today and saw Millie Bobby Brown, went up to her and asked her for a picture when she yelled, ‘f-ck you f-gg-t ass looking homo walrus hoe burn in hell’ and beat me up til i blacked out then left on her private jet, someone stop her #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown.”
These tweets depicting the young star unfairly as a violent homophobe have been trending on social media in recent weeks, although there’s no clear reason as to why she has received the treatment. Maybe it’s all for the sake of a sick irony. Brown is a vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights and an advocate for GLAAD Media.
Millie deleted her Twitter account on Thursday, and media attempts to reach out to her publicist were not answered. However, she still maintains an active secondary account, named Milliestopshate. It’s dedicated to fighting all forms of bullying.
Her Instagram account is still active as well, and boasts just under 17 million followers.
