Liberal Hollywood can tweet or post whatever it wants. But when a conservative posts something, it’s considered “a violation” — even when it’s just a humorous meme.
Actor James Woods was recently suspended from Twitter for doing just that, posting content that apparently violated Twitter’s terms of service. In an email, Twitter informed Woods that a meme posted on July 20 “has the potential to be misleading in a way that could impact an election.” Even though Woods posted the meme with a disclaimer, it was not enough for Twitter. He was told to delete the tweet in order to regain access to his account.
Woods refused.
The meme talked about men staying home in order to make “a woman’s vote worth more” with the hashtag #NoMenMidterm. Woods prefaced the meme with this statement, “Pretty scary that there is a distinct possibility this could be real. Not likely, but in this day and age of absolute liberal insanity, it is at least possible.”
In a statement to the Associated Press, Woods said, “Free speech is free speech -- it’s not Jack Dorsey’s version of free speech. The irony is, Twitter accused me of affecting the political process, when in fact, their banning of me is the truly egregious interference. Because now, having your voice smothered is much more disturbing than having your vocal chords slit. If you want to kill my free speech, man up and slit my throat with a knife, don’t smother me with a pillow.”
Ironically, Woods’ girlfriend posted the same meme and was not blocked from Twitter. Woods refuses to delete the tweet, saying it would be no victory if he appealed and won.
