More Word Policing: Jaguar Land Rover Censor ‘Master,’ ‘Slave’ in Part Names

In this week’s episode of “needless corporate pandering to woke ideology” we have Jaguar Land Rover requiring its employees in UK factories to ditch the words “master” and “slave” in technical terms for car parts in favor of “surrogate” parts, as reported by The Daily Mail June 27

The change allegedly from some complaints by “employees” over the term, said Jaguar Land Rover. However, according to the article, things on the factory floor were more contested than the company is letting on.

One worker on the floor of the giant factory in Solihull near Birmingham, England said to The Sun, “It's just one more example of wokeism and it's as a result of a few voices making a fuss. It's so stupid because 'slave' in car making refers to a component that supports the function of another-- ‘slave’ and ‘master.’” The Daily Mail gives the example of a “clutch slave cylinder,”one of the most common parts in cars.

The terms “slave” and “master” in tech and engineering are used to refer to the functions of parts and have been one of many targets for the leftist all-consuming ideological brain rot. A master part is usually the one in control, while a slave part is being controlled. Makes perfect sense. But of course, it was only a matter of time until the left raised faux-moralistic objections.

This certainly isn’t the first time the left in the UK has played the part of woke police. Now Jaguar Land Rover wants to proselytize their working-class factory employees into the new religion of the left.
